Title: Installing From Cf
Post by: Fushnchupsh on May 11, 2008, 08:37:14 am
I have been trying to move on to debian as my zaurus has sat collecting dust, mostly because pdaxrom has slowed so much.  However, my SD slot is broken.

Is there any way to install from CF?  From what I gathered you have to install from SD?  I've tried to install and I get a kernel panic.

Thanks!

There really isn't any reason you *can't* run from CF...if you install Altboot on your pdaxrom and if you put a Debian rootfs on a CF card, you should be able to pivot_root into the CF card and boot from it normally.

If you were going the Titchy original route than you might have a problem. But the thread about installing without a network connection seems to suggest that you could do the process from the CF slot. YMMV.

If you are installing the EABI systems, there doesn't appear to be a big problem. Untarring the filesystem from a CF card to the internal microdrive should work and all the partitioning and formatting looks doable. Flashing the appropriate kernel wouldn't appear to be a problem. If you needed to use the removable CF card after install you'd need to do your networking by the usbnet or by a usb dongle, unless of course you used host usb and connected storage that way.

No obvious obstacle occurs to me  I think you'd just have a bit of inconvenience around the network connection and what setup to use in the ifaces file. Good luck.

excellent.  I am a bit lost here, but I'll do some reading and figure out what I did wrong.

thanks!
