Title: What To Do After Installation
Post by: wgb on May 26, 2008, 03:32:58 am
Hi,
I installed Angström successfully and then ...

... on my desktop is no application, not even a webbrowser ...
... ok, after some hours I found out that i have to update the package-list in the Package-Tool and then ...
... i can install the gpe-mini-browser and it works ...
... most of the times ...
... but if I want to install any other program ...
... I have no ram left ...

=> Is that the normal situation .Not the long time for finding out how to install any application, but that there is no place left in memory.

Greetings
Wolf

What image (exactly the name) did you install? Where from?

Angstrom-x11-image-glibc-ipk-2007.12-r14-simpad.rootfs.jffs2
from http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/relea.../images/simpad/ (http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/releases/2007.12/images/simpad/)

After I installed the gpe-minibrowser I had about 2 or 3 MB free space on the root partition.
Do I have to by a cf-card to use Angström, or are the 64mb enougth for a Browser, Pim etc (a set of tools like in win-ce)

After I installed the gpe-minibrowser I had about 2 or 3 MB free space on the root partition.
That seems to be ok. Without anything installed, I have ~5.4 MB free.
But I'm now wondering as well, because my used space is shown as 19 MB used. Where the missing 8 MB??? I slowly remember I read someting about another 8 MB partition that is reserved for something but can be modified to be used as part of the root partition.
Can you investigate here?

You have 64 MB FLASH?
Solve the lost 8 MB problem and you have 10+ MB left for your apps. If you still need more, better go for a cf.

hi,
we are planning to release a new bootloader which has only one big partition. until it will be released you can try out this howto [1]. You need to reflash your device for it.

A good place to look for angstrom based questions is also the angstrom faq/manual [2]

Thanks for the direct link to the home-partition howto. I applied it and now (after a fresh full x11 r15 image) I've 13MB+ free disk! Excellent!
