Title: Does any Zaurus model suppot an external vga monitor?
Post by: rSYN on March 16, 2004, 01:29:25 pm
I currently am using an ipaq 3870 with a dual pcmcia sleeve for a wearable application (having issues.) I\'m interested in possibly switching to the Zaurus. Currently, I use an HP VGA out pcmcia card and the Ratoc CFU1U usb card. The major requirements are external vga that can drive a display at 640x480 @ 60 and a USB host controller. Can anyone recommend a Zaurus model to use?

Thanks for any pointers.

Both USB host adapter and external VGA are available on the Zaurus via Compact Flash adapters.

CFXGA VGA adapter from IO Data:

The Ratoc USB card is supported on the Zaurus, but there is only one CF slot on the SL-c7** and SL-c8** models.  So, I\'m not sure how you would be able to use both.   I have never used either of these CF cards, but they are supposed to work according to Sharp.  YMMV.

Hope this helps.

You may want to consider the SL-6000 which has a CF and SD slot built-in and also has an optional expandability jacket with an additional CF slot and battery.

It should also be mentioned that the 6000 has a built-in USB host, so you can use the CF slot for VGA, and not worry about the sleeve.

Really? The 6000 can serve as a USB host? Does that mean I can plug in my 20GB usb 2.0 drive and have that storage available on the Z??

I don\'t see why not.  But you\'ll have to ask someone who has one to be sure.

There\'s also a Linux port in progress for the Toshiba e7[45]0 (which has USB host built-in,  and a cheap VGA adapter).  But it\'s still at a fairly early stage,  and I don\'t think the VGA is supported yet.  So you might just be trading one set of \"issues\" for another.
