This is the first time I have attempted to install a new rom (oz 3.3.5) on my 5600, and the battery and email lights are FLASHING during install. Everything I read made me expect that the lights would remain lit continuously until the installation is finished.
The process has been underway for a little over 20 minutes now, and I\'m wondering if I should just be patient or try something else.
Can anyone help?
thanks

By the way, I\'m using a 1GB microdrive. Anyone successfully flash a 5600 from a microdrive?
I have read other threads on this, but nothing has worked for me so far . . .

Given the flashing lights I\'m assuming that you followed the instructions on the OZ website... However, those instructions are for flashing the 5000D/5500 Z\'s.
The flashing instructions for the 5600 are different. You need to follow the instructions on the Zaurus website in order to flash the items properly. This link shall help you:
http://www.myzaurus.com/ROMupdate6.asp (http://www.myzaurus.com/ROMupdate6.asp)
Remember: zImage.bin needs to be renamed to zImage and initrd.bin-gcc3 (or whatever) needs to be renamed to initrd.bin. It also needs to be on the root directory on the microdrive, which has to be fat16 formatted. (Same as with a CF card.) You\'ll also need the updater.sh file, which is located in the OZ feed on OZ\'s website.

From what I have heard, don\'t try flashing with a microdrive as they can brick your unit.
Peter.

Thanks for the replies. I had missed the updater.sh file when I was trying to flash OZ. After multiple unsuccessful attempts last night, I downloaded the latest Sharp ROM and tried to restore it. No luck. I\'m inclined to blame the microdrive at this point.
After work today I\'ll go buy a \"real\" CF card, and attempt OZ again, this time with updater.sh
I\'ll post my results.
Thanks again.

Still having trouble flashing (both OZ and the Sharp ROM update), this time from a new 64MB CF card, but after multiple resets my old Sharp rom reappeared. I\'m glad to know I haven\'t toasted the zaurus, but still have a problem to solve . . .

OK, now that you got a CF card, I recommend doing the following to flash OZ on the Z.
1. Go into the Maintenance Menu (Reboot Z, then OK+Cancel), select Format.
2. After formatting, insert CF card with the three files on the root directory.
3. Flash as you would a Sharp ROM.
This worked for me. If you have any questions, PM me or post a message. :-)

The maintenance menu is the key! Thanks for steering me in the right direction, Joe - if you\'re ever in NYC I owe you a drink!
I was able to flash the new rom from the Update command in the maintenenance menu with no problems (I guess that\'s the value of the updater.sh file).
The real problem seems to be that 98% of the info available on flashing the 5600 is just plain wrong - the familiar C-D-reset key combo on the 5600 is apparently just the command for \"flash lights incessantly and do nothing else.\" Even the Sharp site makes no mention of the maintenance menu for flashing (at least the part I read).
Thanks again to Joe, and theKompany site, which has detailed, correct information on how to flash the 5600 from the menu.

hi, thanks for the effort, i just want to confirm, did you just copy the updater.sh from the sharp rom package along with the OZ bzImage and initrd?

You should always use the updater.sh from the same feed that you d/l your initrd.bin and zImage from.
This would apply to OZ as well as sharp based roms.
