Title: what feed?

This is a totally newbie question on purpose. I\'ve looked through a lot of pages, and found a zillion feed directories scattered all over. Isn\'t there a consize feed being maintained?

Also, I understand that for different ROMs (e.g. pdaXrom, cacko QT, OZ, etc.), different feeds may be needed, as some applications run here but not there. Is this so?

Yes, this is so. And as far as I am aware there is no \"ultimate feed guide\" to explain which feed is for which rom/zaurus etc.

its total chaos in zaurus land.  so many confusing options.  a landscape of possibilities and potential.  

but *SO MANY* conflicts.  this is bad.  as a community, we really have set a pretty poor example for how to maintain a stable platform.

well, you have killefiz.de/zaurus -- it\'s not a feed, but it\'s pretty decent for sharp compat roms.

when you go to the other feeds -- you\'ll be told that the rom is a \"work in progress\" as an excuse why feeds are
scattered all over.  I gave up ever trying to figure out oz.  cacko tends to have a feed or two depending on release --
but old stuff isn\'t maintained.  so, I started mirroring all non-oz feeds that I could find.  is my method a solution --
no... but that\'s not my goal.

for most people, I\'d suggest getting ipks that you use for the rom that you like, and downloading then to a place
you control and running a script to make a \"Packages\" file in the dir -- ie: make your own feed.

ps: when you get OZ, for instance, grab the entire feed that goes with that release.... a 256MB CF is more than sufficient.

I\'ve been doing my best to maintain and update the ZUG feed (www.zaurususergroup.com/feed).  I regularly visit the ZSI and add/update packages, as well as packages that are uploaded to the ZUG Downloads area.

Would it be helpful if I create a sticky topic somewhere (maybe general discussion forum) for update requests to the ZUG feed?

edit:  another thought I had was the possibility of having a seperate feed for apps that are tested to work on the C series.  Would this be helpful, or just provide yet another bifurcation of a resource?

yes, it seems a Cxxx feed would be very beneficial. But also, feeds should be separated in terms of dependencies, like X11 vs. Qt vs. OZ. Now I can only find out the hard way that what I\'m trying to install is not intended for the ROM I use

Also, what I\'d find very useful is a sort of source feed, that would hold all the exact sources that were used to compile the ipk files. So that one could recompile if he wants to.

I like the idea of a source feed.... I think we\'re losing a lot of things via ZSI because the links are only links... not local copies.

By the way, once at the old Sharp site there was a bunch of tutorials I cannot find anymore.
Things like \"how ipgk works\" (I know: it\'s a .tar.gz file containing two .tar.gz files, but I would like to know about pre-install and post-install scripts, so that I can correct errors), or \"how to set up a cross compiler\", and even \"how to build a ROM\": for me, ISO-8859-1 support is a must, and I cannot use properly some apps in Cacko.
Do you know if they are saved somewhere?

go to the ZUG How-To Docs (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index) section... you should find them all there.
