Lately my Tosa is constantly telling me my backup battery is "extremely low" and suggests that the backup battery switch be turned on. That switch is on as it has been since I bought this in October of 2004. (Wow, this thing is 5 years old!) It still keeps time, and works perfectly other than that annoying message. So I am thinking that my backup battery needs replacing.
Any info on what battery and where to purchase would be appreciated.
Also, this probably should have been in the model specific > 6000 forum, but I fear it might not be noticed in that mostly dead area.

Fixed! Guess how?

OK. Enough badgering by you curious folks! The backup battery was fixed by replacing the external battery. It seems that it developed a problem that it would not pass a charge to the internal backup battery. After changing the external battery, all is well!

What was your source for the battery? These are hard to find...so it's good to post your source.

My spare battery was bought 2 or 3 years ago, after reading a post on one of the oesf forums. I can't remember which post, or even which forum. Conics had some, but I don't think they do anymore. I found a "refurbished" one listed here:
http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=...IwAg#ps-sellers (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&source=hp&q=ea-bl09+battery&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=9354145903680405545&ei=SlE9S7HVBtCrlAfJ7-CwCA&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CBMQ8wIwAg#ps-sellers)
but there is not enough information on that page to tell if the seller actually has the know how and resources to "refurbish", or if they just wiped the dirt off of a battery and called it "refurbished".
There are battery rebuilding services such as this one:
http://www.microbattery.com/custom-battery-packs.htm (http://www.microbattery.com/custom-battery-packs.htm) That may be able to actually refurbish (or rebuild) our 6000 batteries.

I thought I might mention that I read something on a Dell Axim forum about charging the Axim for 24 hours straight to bring back "dead" backup batteries when an Axim was left in a drawer too long. Just charging for a few hours until the Green light came on did not help. But charging for 24 hours "resurrected" dead backup batteries.
So I did this with my Zaurus (a couple weeks ago) and now both batteries work fine with no further "backup battery is extremely low" warnings.
Hope this helps someone who has this problem.
