Title: Renaming tkc.rom to initrd.bin, says it\'s AVG.Update file?
Post by: sirhc7 on March 22, 2004, 08:05:30 pm
When I rename the tkc initrd file to just initrd.bin, w2k says it is an \"AVG.Update\"  file when I click on it, under the \"initrd.bin\". I tried flashing anyway, the lights stayed on for about 20 seconds, then went off. The flash failed, and it re-boots to Qtopia.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I did have AVG antivirus, but I removed it a while ago.
Hope I\'m not doing something stupid!
Many thanks.

are you trying to rename it via windows explorer or my computer?  you might try to rename the file via the command prompt by typing the following:

cd [to the location of the file]
ren initrd.whatever initrd.bin

or if you\'re zaurus currently has a working rom, you can just copy the file to your CF card and rename it via the shell on the Z:

mv initrd.whatever initrd.bin

good luck,

Thanks a lot, offroadgeek. I tried the command prompt, but still when highlighted it said AVG.Update. I even downloaded, changed the name on a friend\'s iMac, burnt it to disk, and put it on my computer - still it said AVG. I also tried on the Z but it said \"file not found\" - probably me though, I\'m still learning; I\'ll persevere with it.
Anyway, your speedy assistance is much appreciated.

Windows is funny about trying to change the extenstion of \'known\' file types.  I\'ve found myself using my FTP client (good ole ws_ftp) to rename the initrd.bin file.

Thanks, but it\'s all new to me - is that easy to do? Does w2k have an FTP client? Is that a silly question?
