I have a Netgear MA701, a perfectly servicable cf wifi card.
But since I use my cf slot for nothing else, I would prefer to leave my wifi card in all the time. The MA701 protrudes too much to transport the machine safely.
I've looked at the hardware wiki, but haven't found a card that might live peacefully in the cf slot without any significant protrusion. Perhaps something with a retractable antenna, something with a structure similar to the old X-Jack PCMCIA modems.
Is this possible?
Thanks,
Jake

It's gonna be hard. I don't think anyone makes CF wifi cards anymore. In my personal experience, every smaller CF wifi card I have had (3 of them) has died. I don't know why, they just start loosing connection and can be reconnected if I put pressure on them from underneath for a while and then eventually that doesn't even work.
The only places I can think to find them are places like ebay or some very unknown (untrusted) online vendors.

Yes, so far my search has been pretty fruitless. From my HP/C days, there were PCMCIA wifi cards that retracted into the slot. Then again, they were bigger.

Smallest protruberance with a card, is probably (still) the Ambicom series. All others I have stick out more, if only a mm or two.

You wouldn't happen to own the Netgear MA701, would you? I'd love to hear an in-the-flesh comparison. I looked at the Ambicom pix on ebay, and Ambicom looks pretty close to the MA701.

No, no Netgear.
The other card I have is a Symbol LA-4137. That sticks out about a mm or two more than the Ambicom.

Thanks for this info.
