Ive just installed OZ 3.3.6-pre1 on my 5600 to give it a try but I seem to have run into a little bit of a problem. Evreything installed fine, but then once I rebooted, all I can get is the shell. I logged on as root, and tried running /etc/init.d/opie start but that doesnt seem to help me, all it does is tell me \"Starting Opie-login with syslog logging.....\" and then goes back to the prompt.
If anyones got any ideas, let me know.

Another thing, since I cant get opeie running, Im not quite sure how I can access my SD card to put a different image on there to flash with. My pc still detects the Z when I plug it into its cradle, but I dont know how to connect to it. I was using samba before I flashed, but I doubt that would still work. Is there supposed to be an ftp server on the Z I can run? What would be the ip/login info and command I need to execute from the (Z\'s) shell to connect to it?

Im going back to the original sharp rom via the usb updater at the moment, but if anyone knows why opie wouldnt start, Id still like to know so I can try it again later.

Not very helpful, but always nice to know you\'re not alone
i had the same problem
-
hahaha i just read the install guide and noticed that i didnt follow the instructions correctly *hangs head in shame*, i installed it from the maintainance menu by holding down the ok key, but the oz install guide says to
\"Hold down the \"C\" and \"D\" keys on the Zaurus\' keyboard and press the \"FULL RESET\" button located on the lower-right side of the battery compartment.\"
maybe thats the reason why it didnt work properly
-
btw how do people hold down c and d and press the full reset button i think i just dislocated my finger trying...
-
Uhm, C+D is the correct procedure for 5500, not for 5600. Don\'t try C+D on your 5600.
-
ah thank goodness i couldnt manage it
-
wait a sec... does it NEED to be installed from a CF card? I was trying it from SD, maybe thats the problem (although I dont have a CF card aside from my WiFi, so that wouldnt really help me)...
-
I had a simulare problem when I was trying to flash and it turned out to be a corrupted file, I redownloaded and everything went great.
Also double check and make sure you have the files named correctly. The proper names should be listed in the readme file.

I know I had a similar issue the first time I tried installing OZ3.3.6pre1 on my 5600.
Just after flashing i relaized that I did not have the correct name for the zImage file. I left the name as zImage.bin. So it was booting w/ the sharp kernel.
I don\'t remember the correct names currently but they are in the readme.
Once I had fixed the names and reflashed all worked fine.
I flashed it from a SD card I don\'t currently have a CF memory card.

^^^ Ill give it another try then
-
Ive got it up and running, the only problem Im having now is trying to install programs. It seems that all my internal storage is somehow full...
The package manage keeps giving me NoSpaceLeftOnDevice and Failed to link errors. Any ideas? How can I clear off the old rom?
-
OK - I\'m going to ask a non-5600 question. I have also failed to install oz3.3.6pre1 on my 860. Is there some kind of \"full reset\" button on the 860 other than just sliding the battery cover switch?
-
I think I solved my problem, I just followed this thread

Yeah, Bojo\'s howto is quite good. A good reference point to contextualise with the other readmes.
