Title: I killed my Zaurus!
Post by: zaurusguy on April 05, 2004, 08:36:24 am
In trying to upgrade my Rom on my zaurus sl-5500 the upgrade did not go well.  I even tried re-flashing it from a compact Flash.  In that procedure, it calls for holding down the Keys C and D then pressing the Hard Reset button.   The Power Light and Mail light stay on for about 2 seconds then the turn off and nothing else happens.

HELP!

is your cf-card fat formated, it must be!
check your size of the files on the cf-card.
the setup files must placed in the root-directory.

Yes the cf-card is formated in the fat format.
I downloaded placed the rom file in the root of the cf-card.  What other files is needed?

Thanks

The lights being on while flashing is a good sign!
Check, whether I renamed the files for flashing right (no typo\'s), that the files have the correct size etc, that the cf-card is suitable for flashing and that the Zaurus is plugged in.
Then try flashing several times. It took me sometimes 3 times with the same setting on the SL-5500.
Don\'t give up.

Good luck,
Kathrin

For OZ (and Cacko) you\'ll need 2 files:

initrd.bin and zImage-5500-XXmemory-XXstorage.bin

oh! and you\'ll have to rename the second into :
zImage (without extensions!)

So both files: initrd.bin and zImage are needed...

see here for instructions: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/clanwolfer/z...-tcl-HOWTO.html (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/clanwolfer/zaurus-debian-tcl-HOWTO.html)
or at www.openzaurus.org

For the Sharprom you\'ll need just the OSPACK File (but I never tried this):

I found the problem.  Even though the compact flash was originally formatted in fat16 the zaurus didnt recognize it as such.

Reformatted the CF, copied the Rom file, held down the C, and D keys while doing a full reset.  And walla!  it works.

Thanks everyone for your help.
