Title: Buying a SL-5000d
Post by: mdweezer on October 26, 2003, 12:19:53 pm
I plan on buying a used SL-5000d and getting myself going in the ZUG.  My buddy just picked up a 5500 and its amazing.  I\'m on a budget however and found a SL-5000d w/wifi and a few memory cards for hopefully cheap.

Will I be able to load up the same ROMS and such? (OZ, Kompany) and have no problems with the OS itself, and be able to host applications off a memory card?

Also is it pretty easy to keep apps on multiple cards, so if I had a bunch of apps on a SD card and a bunch of mp3\'s on another, I could swap those as long as I had a mp3 player on CF card?

Looking forward to picking up a Z soon!  Thanks all.

There are a few ROMs available for the 5000d, but you can\'t use a 5500 or 5600 ROM on a 5000d.

3 ROMs on the community site for the 5000d (http://community.zaurus.com/softwaremap/trove_list.php?form_cat=310)

And the infamous tkc ROM (the Kompany) for the 5000d (http://community.zaurus.com/project/showfiles.php?group_id=47&release_id=276)

OpenZaurus for the 5000d (http://www.openzaurus.org/oz_website/content/download?model_id=1&release_id=7&mirror_id=1)

I wouldn\'t recommend using multiple SD cards to install apps to.  Your Z wouldn\'t be too happy if you had apps installed, and then removed the card.  I think most people just leave the SD in the Z all the time once they either have /home on the SD or install apps to it.  Then use the CF for more storage or wifi...

best of luck!
