Post by: Laze on April 07, 2004, 05:01:28 am
The new pdaXrom 1.0.5 has just been released, among its new features are hardware On/Off button problems fixed, better support for WIFI cards, hardware Mouse button control, menu button can now be used to switch between mouse buttons, \"On-the-fly\" screen rotation and lots of bugfixes and updates.

At the same time the first SDK has been released together with the SDK installation guide (http://www.pdaxrom.org/index.php?showid=34&menuid=1) and the SDK tutorial (http://www.pdaxrom.org/index.php?showid=35&menuid=1) - The SDK can be found in the SDK downloads section (http://www.pdaxrom.org/index.php?showid=33&menuid=11)

Find it all at www.pdaXrom.org - and as always feel free to donate if you like our work and efforts :-)

cool - can\'t wait to try it out  also saw the SDK documentation - very informative. Also noticed python_2.3.3, tcl_8.4.6 and tk_8.4.6 in the feed  http://www.pdaxrom.org/feed/ (http://www.pdaxrom.org/feed/)

Is there a changelog/update list for the cross-toolchain?

I\'ve got the old one (actually I rebuilt the old one) and was wondering whether there\'s reason to rebuild (updated libc?, etc.) or is the change just the addition of libs?

Have anybody installed it yet? Does screen rotation really work?

Just installed the new ROM...  And Yes, screen rotation appears to work automatically!  So far so good.  Now its time to reinstall apps and test out my Network, MODEM and WIFI cards etc..  From what I can tell so far, they have made some Great improvements from the last ROM version.  Great job, Sashz and company!

Does the version right after booting say 1.0.0 for anyone else? Or have I managed to install 1.0.0 from the 1.0.5 zip?

edit: well, on the fly rotation works, so I guess they just forgot to bump the version number  This is a new install, it was OZ before, so no chance of it being the old version.

lol  never mind, it seems to be working great  WiFi card was detected after I spent a few frustrating minutes wondering why it suspended it immediately; had to go into LAN config and select Wireless, of course

If my Bluetooth stuff works I\'ll be happy now

I\'m noticing hwclock is freezing when I attempt to set the Date and Time. I have to kill hwclock to get the Date & Time applet to exit, at which point the local time is ok, but after a reboot, its wrong again.

# hwclock --debug
hwclock from util-linux-2.12
Using /dev/rtc interface to clock.
Assuming hardware clock is kept in local time.
Waiting for clock tick...

And it never ends.

Guys,

My Linksys WCF12 card does not seem to function properly under this ROM. It is detected, and I can try to make a wifi connection, but after a little while the device seems to timeout and is ejected. Any help would be most welcome, as I do not want to revert to the older rom. Thanks.

Upon further inspection it appears that I do not have WEP capabilities. When i turn off wep everything works fine. This feature worked very will in cacko 1.0.0. Thanks.

Wow, I am so impressed by the new pdaXrom. The flashing process was smooth. And it\'s much faster than the old Cacko X11 rom. Great work, the Cacko team!

The link to the sdk download on the SDK Installation page under step 1, points to the rom instead.
Very nice work! Can\'t wait till I get home from work

WooHoo!!! I love the new rom!!!

I love the screen rotation.  Espescially with KOPI.  GREAT STUFF!!!

I\'m syncing with my laptop KOrganizer.  Although the scp part
doesn\'t work.  It seems to try the command:
user:pass@host:/dir/file.ics
which is not supported by scp.  I don\'t see a way to add the password
to the scp command.  Any ideas?

I have just installed 1.0.0 and some other packages. Is it possible to just update to 1.0.5
or will I just loose everything that I have installed so far? On the pdaxrom.org website there
is no hint as to whether there is an update function.

No. Missing on my install. There\'s a few things missing I\'d quite like actually, but I don\'t know which I can find in packages yet.

has anyone tried on a 6000 yet? Or will it need to be modified for the 6000? When I get a 6000 I want to use PDAXrom. Thanks.

Anybody know of any work underway to implement WPA? (802.1x)

this wep setup is from the devs from another thread:

Try to set parameters form the command line:

iwconfig eth0 key YOUR_HEX_OR_ASSII_WEP_KEY open
iwconfig eth0 ESSID YOUR_ESSID

If you use Shared Key scheme then replace word \"open\" with \"restricted\"

Then go to the network settings and click apply. It should connect.

I got my 860 4 days ago and am playing with it almost continously.  I am struck by the fact that the Zaurus has more horsepower, and RAM, and storage than my first PC.  My first several PCs, in fact.  I am still amazed by what it represents.

And the new ROM is great, thanks to all.  I would really like to be able to exit from X interface however.  Is there any way to get back to the naked prompt other than with a reboot?

pdaXrom has a 3 finger salute for this:  hold down the calendar and adress buttons and press the backspace (bs) key.  It will kill the xserver and return you to the prompt.

As it is, the console is not (yet) very usable (but it sure looks pretty). Many important keys are not accessible with any Fn combination on the keyboard. The present output of dumpkeys looks bleak and needs a lot of work. Also add more consoles to /etc/inittab. And I think, the non-X runlevel should be 2 and not 5.

Thanks, for the quick reponse.  I guess I should have figured that, having found the Ctl and Alt reference, but maybe it should have an explicit FAQ entry anyway?

Thanks again

I was sort of wondering why it comes up in 5 even tho it stops at the prompt, but why not 3?
