IMPORTANT: This ROM requries a flash partition at least 27 MBytes in size!
Make sure to repartition your internal flash before updating ROM!
Installation:
1. Extract the 3 files - initrd.bin tools.tar updater.sh - to the root of your CF or SD/MMC card.
2. Make sure that Zaurus isn\'t plugged into AC power.
3. Remove battery for at least 5 seconds.
4. Replace battery (replace battery cover, lock cover), plug in AC power.
5. Press and hold the \"OK\" button on the keyboard.
6. Turn the power on, you should see the Japanese service menu.
7. Now Plug in the Power Cord. (You will get an error if it isn\'t plugged in!)
8. Select option 4 (flash/update).
9. You then have four options (1. USB, 2. CF, 3. SD, 4. Back)
10. Choose either option 2 or 3, depending on which media you put the files on.
11. Select \"5 Flash repartition\", enter 27 when prompted for root partition size.
12. Flash will be repartioned and Zaurus will reboot.
13. Repeate steps 2-10 again and wait for the menu start menu.

are we going to see a Cacko rom for the SL5600?
Not untill I have a 5600 myself

I\'m happy to be a test monkey... ;-)

Default configuration includes Shit
I\'m not convinced of that!
(BTW Moderators, it ain\'t a swear word anymore)
--UPDATE--
The instructions have been updated ;-)
-
... and the first problem I found myself - zip, unzip, unrar and lha binaries have wrong permissions so that only root can execute them.
To fix it do this from console:
su
mount -o remount /
cd /bin
chmod a+x zip
chmod a+x unzip
chmod a+x lha
chmod a+x unrar
mount -o remount,ro /

I am a complete newbie here and I very seriously thinking of buying a C860 from www.shirtpocket.co.uk - they import the devcies from Japan and convert them to english - does anyone know what ROM they use?
By they way I\'ve very little knowledge of Linux so I am on a very steep learning curve but I\'m willing to learn as I am fed up with my crappy tosh e740. I have read a number of the posts regarding this rom and earlier versions and also posts regarding the use of GPRS over bluetooth which I currently use with e740 and T610.

They use the standard rom and convert the menus into english but it is not a complete conversion. I got my 860 2 or 3 weeks ago and found Maslovsky\'s ROMs MUCH better, it just feels nicer than the factory shipped ROM.
I\'d at least recommend you familiarise yourself with Linux beforehand and feel comfortable with the command line, I personally would not recommend an 860 for absolute beginners unless you want to learn \'getting technical\', others may have other views. I had a week of crying and hair pulling when I first got mine (I\'m a UNIX sysadmin), but the Z\'s are the best thing on the planet. ;-)
-
Nice work.
Not found any problems yet apart from the 6000\'s media player (boy, it\'s ugly) which seems to play a few of my VBR MP3\'s at 32Khz instead of 44.1KHz, that could be the player itself rather than the ROM, unless anyone knows any different.
I find the reference to \'www.cacko.biz\' **slightly** pointless as it\'s now the pdaXrom site (we want our own site ;-))
I think I personally preferred the original boot screen that was on 1.18 (I think it was a modified CG Silicon boot screen) Can I change that?
But apart from the media player problem, it\'s great!
-
I just got my 760 (used) about a week ago. I have been through what was delivered, cacko 1.20, tkcrom (would not startup), OZ and reload of sharp rom.
I found that the cacko rom looks best to me.
If I move to v1.21, can I restore my added ipks and the rest of my user files via a backup restore, or do I need to reload everything on top of 1.21 individually and then resync my PIM stuff from my laptop?
Doing all that individually is a bit labor intensive, so if I can avoid it I will :-)
Thanks for the great rom\'s (1.20 and I expect 1.21).

I could be wrong but I don\'t think a restore would work, I would re-sync your PIM data from your laptop, then re-install. I install all my apps into the internal storage, so I put all my ipk files in one place on my SD card and type at a terminal:
su
cd /mnt/card
ipkg install *.ipk
Then reboot, all done, takes less than 10 mins.
Hope this helps a bit

padishah_emperor, thanks for the feedback!

Yes, the Sharp Player from 6000 is ugly, but it\'s capable of playing OGG files, since it understands the old OGG plugin written for 5x00 series. That\'s the main reason I\'ve added it.

I\'m not the one who\'s responsible for the site maintenence, but I klnow it\'s being worked on. It should be back online (hopefully soon)

Yes, you can have any logo you like. Create a 640x480 true color (24 bit) BMP file named Startup_screen.bmp, bzip2 it (it should become Startup_screen.bmp.bz) and copy into /home/QtPalmtop/pics144 directory on your zaurus.

I\'m not recommending to restore a backup made from different version. The buoilt-in backup application implements a dummy and brute force approace and may easily screw up your settings. If you want to save your settings and PIM data, you can save and then restore your /home/zaurus/Settings and /home/zaurus/Applications/dtm folders.
Two important notes though:
- file names are case sensitive, make sure that you save them to the file system that preserves case in file names. Better is to tar the folders.
- make sure you torn off fast load options for the PIM apps before restoring your data

Ugly.. yes but with another backgound & some icons..

Thanks for the reply. I am a windows man - notice your not - but I started very early and have a good knowledge of DOS etc. - remember windows 1 - !!!!
Others have said that you can get on with using the zaurus as an advanced PIM tool without having to have a good knowledge of LINUX to start with but can learn with the Zaurus. Is it possible following info. found here an else where to backup the converted ROM from shirtpocket then use this ROM and then go back again with out too much trouble - I have problem about loosing personal data - I\'ll just push it back in again from my Outlook data file etc.
The reason I\'m interested in this ROM is becasue of it\'s compatibilty with Blue tooth etc.
Thanks again for the advice.
-
sorry for the question!
Before upgrading I wanted to get a list of all my installed applications, but I couldn\'t find a way ipkg to list the installed ipks.
\'ipkg list\' lists only the available packages, not the installed ones.
The package manager lists them, but this is a gui app and I don\'t feel like typing everything by hand...
So did I overlook something in \'ipkg --help\'
cheers,
Kathrin

Hey maslovsky,
Were you guys ever able to get the sorting in the address book straight as well as have the Date/Time reference US standards (M/D/Y)? The last I checked, address book didn\'t sort right...so I left my \"hacked\" libs in to allow it to work appropriately.

For those who are not familiar with commandline and want very little hassle, I recommend tkcbackup. The app will backup all your settings and data and it will allow you to easily restore the individual folder or files. The key point here is that it is all point and click. It will require a CF or SD card.
gizard, you don\'t need to know any linux to get started using the Z. The hardest part when you start with the Z will be doing a nand backup and switch to a new ROM. That does not take linux knowledge, but ability to follow technical instructions. The more you learn linux, the more you will unlock the Z\'s potential.

Well following technical instructions should not be a problem at all for me. I used to have an Ipaq - (opps sorry is that allowed to be mentioned here!? ) which got half way through a ROM update and crashed - the only thing that would work on it was file explorer - but the touch screen input was rotated 90 degrees to what you could see and endless error messages -still with a card reader and a copy of the rom i managed to get it to update it\'s self....
Anyway thanks for the info again. I will probably play with the english conversion for a bit and then try out this ROM - I assume that it\'s still possible to the use the english sync prog with Outlook etc. ? or the Qutopia desk top etc?
My only slight issue is that if I change the ROM will it invalidate my Hardware warranty with shirtpocket?
Plus can this ROM be set to sort of UK regional settings as opposed to US style?
-
Maslovsky,
One more question...do you have a laundry list of what the cryllic pieces were that you added in the ROM down to the file level? I would like to remove some of these (unfortunately I can\'t speak nor read russian), so I would like to free up the space.
Thanks!

you might want to bring up these question in a new thread in the newbie forum. As this is off topic.
yes the english windows sync program will work.

maslovsky:
Great ROM, I like the LCD control icon on the task bar, nice touch. One question, what does the mirror.sh do? I read through it and am puzzled, mirroring of the display - is this for connecting to a CF video-out card?
Thanks for your continuing support of the Qtopia based ROM.
Jerry
-----------Edit---------
Doh! Didn\'t read the readme text closely enough, it\'s there under Qtopia
- Added CF VGA card support application
Never mind....

Found an issue, Prboom no longer runs properly when launched from the icon (which makes it run in magnified mode). From the command line it runs fine. I\'m using the updated version of prboom that was ported by zports. It has worked fine on 1.20.
-
Thanks for this great Rom!
Got everything from my \"Daniela Rom\" up and running again :-))
Plus the ratoc-usb-host card is running like a charm :-)
Thanks again,
Kathrin

No, the addressbook sorting is not fixed... Do you have \"fixed\" libs? Where have you been before? I could have them added to the ROM...
One more question...do you have a laundry list of what the cryllic pieces were that you added in the ROM down to the file level? I would like to remove some of these (unfortunately I can\'t speak nor read russian), so I would like to free up the space.
Well, I can, but you won\'t save much space (maybe 200K or so). Cyrillic support mostly means changes to the configuration files. And also, how are you going to remove the files? Do you unpack the ROM?
Anyway, if you realy need to I\'ll try to make you the list on Monday...

Wonderfull ROM!
Automount swapfile, ext3 filesystem, support for socket revG!
Great work!

jerrybme,
I\'ve had problems with the zports stuff, but I use the normal prboom with libSDL 1.2.5 and it\'s running fast and fine on Elena.

Yes I do...it requires editing some of the binaries with vi. I can give you a \"how to\" on doing this. I have your ROMs running and the address sorts perfectly with the hack;). I posted on the old zaurus dev forums a how to. I can get another one together.[/quote]

I posted on the old zaurus dev forums a how to. I can get another one together.
javab0y,
Please post the howto! I can not access the old zaurs dev if it is still up.

great works! while I\'m still playing around with the new rom, i have a very silly problem: I can\'t type the question mark (?)! it just shows nothing when I press the key.
-
When I remove Pretec BT2000E, that Zaurus freezes. I must remove battery.
I have Cacko Rom1.21 and SL-C860. With 1.20 rom this works without problems.
Maybe bug in new driver bt2000e_cs ? Other problem?
-

Verified, I too have that problem.
Also enormous problems with OGG files and OGMs, seg faults and the like.
I\'ve also noticed that if something dies or bombs out, more often than not, I have to remove the battery.
-
Not sure when/how it happened, but since going to the 1.21 release, the question mark key doesn\'t work. Something weird in the key mappings? I\'d be interested to know if anyone else has seen this. All other keys work fine including the \".\" and \"]\".
-
zmike, yes read the post above. I hope maslovsky comes up with a quick fix, it vexes I. ;-)
-
I have same problem. Questionmark doesn\'t work with 1.21 rom.
-
No problem with OGG
and if you think that mediaplayer is ugly, i try to make my 1st skin... not too bad

To fix the problem edit keyboard section in /home/zaurus/Applications/cyrillica/english file so that it look like this:
[keyboard]
\',\' \',\' \'/\'
\'/\' \',\' \',\'
\'?\' \'?\' \'.\'
0 0 0
Then launch Settings-]Keyboard application and click OK, so that it reloads the layouts.
Same for other layouts (ex. english-uk) - edit appropriate layout file.
PS: Thanks to Kofi Annan for providing the fix

Could you provide more information? Does that always happen? What do you do before you remove the card? Do you suspend/resume before ejecting the card?
You may want to try the driver that was used in previous version or the ROM. Delete file /etc/pcmcia/bt2000e.conf and uncomment Pretec entry in /etc/pcmcia/bluetooth.conf file. Then reboot your zaurus.
Let me know if it helps.

Good work

Hi All. I\'ve been running with the latest ROM for a few days. I love the new Media Player that was added. It seems to play the multimedia files I download a lot better than mplayer. Also, the Socket BT CF revG card is working better.
However, I have run into a handful of problems with the new ROM:
1.) My Z spontaneously suspends while using Opera and NetFront. Sometimes I\'ll be downloading for several minutes and it\'ll turn off. Other times, I\'ll be clicking around for a few seconds and the same thing happens. I have my power settings set so it should not be suspending so quickly.
2.) There\'s still some quirks with the Socket BT CF rev G card:
* Need to physically eject... the applet for ejecting doesn\'t work (gives error) and `cardctl eject` says the device is busy
* Need to eject the card after each suspend and reinsert it
* When dialing to my SE T610, the network applet indicates there\'s a connection eventhough it\'s still dialing
* Sometimes in the network applet the \"Connect\" button is grayed out... need to go to edit and then leave the edit
All of the Socket card issues are just minor annoyances... this is much better than what we had in the previous ROM!!! The spontaneous suspends though are a problem. Do you think I need to try a reinstall??
Let me know what I can do to help with these issues. I\'m always free to aid in testing.
Thanks
Curt

Hello,
it\'s strange, but now it works ;-)
I was commenting lines in bt2000e.conf and experimenting with serial_cs and hci_uart, because Marcel Holtmann tell me, that this can be functional. But it doesn\'t work. Now I\'am using bt2000e_cs which works at speed of light ;-) Transfer PC to Zaurus about 43kB/s.
We will see after few days...
-
When I play Movie with KINO2 , that suspend time will change to 30seconds. I must run \"Light & Power\" application to restore right settings (10minutes for me).
Run and Quit KINO2 doesn\'t make this problem. Movie must be played.
Maybe mplayer bug?
-
When I have long file (40MB movie) in /home/zaurus/Documents directory, that zaurus is freezed
for about 10-15 seconds after Resume.

I have the same problem with Opera. It would be great to figure it out.
Other than that - GREAT WORK!!!
-
Yes, I have noticed the problem much more with Opera too from what I recall. Too bad too since NetFront doesn\'t like to download *.wmv files... it just downloads it to the screen as garbage characters.

Yes, that\'s a problem in kino2. It\'s disabling light off and suspend during movie playback, but does not seem to restore previouse settings properly. I\'m planning a hot fix pack for this ROM with several fixes, including this one.

1.) My Z spontaneously suspends while using Opera and NetFront. Sometimes I\'ll be downloading for several minutes and it\'ll turn off. Other times, I\'ll be clicking around for a few seconds and the same thing happens. I have my power settings set so it should not be suspending so quickly
Yes, I\'ve noticed that too I\'m looking into the problem, hope to have it fixed...
The main problem is that Socket rev. G card has to be handled differently from other cards, so usual bluetooth scripts don\'t apply. Right now that\'s the best I can do without having such card...

OK, here is the fix to the Z suspending while Opera or NetFront are running. The actual reason is the new screen saver included with 1.21 ROM. It overrides Qtopia suspending behaviour and provides it\'s own settings (actualy more flexible).
To fix the problem disable screen saver applet while you\'re surfing. Install applications like Applet Monitor (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...q=getit&lid=219 (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=UpDownload&file=index&req=getit&lid=219)) or Applet Manager (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...q=getit&lid=220 (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=UpDownload&file=index&req=getit&lid=220)) to manage applets. This is a preffered approach, because it will allow applications to handle suspending as they need.
Don\'t forget to turn the applet back on, since it seems not to restore suspenging option correctly upon unload.
Well, there is another option. Open LUS Screensaver settings and add some application to the list of apps that you don\'t want your Z to suspend with. Then start it together with Opera or NetFront. This will disable suspend. Don\'t add Opera or Netfront themselves - that won\'t work since those apps are compressed in the ROM and their process names don\'t match binary names.

Before I upgrade I thought I\'d check: are there still problems with the GUI crashing when the screen rotation or magnification kicks in? I\'m really happy with Daniela and don\'t want the hassle of upgrading if I can help it, but it would be worth it to get rid of those bugs.

Probably not fixed, since I havn\'t done anything about it

Just a general question on the Qtopia ROM 1.21. Are there any improvements on the PIM side of things? Any additional PIM functionality that will make a migration from v 1.20 worth the trouble?
Thanks,
Ashu

My first problem with this wonderful rom... :?
Opera doesn\'t find the Proxy
I use my zaurus at home on a wifi network (Asus WL-110) with a proxy on my XP PC [FreeProxy (http://www.alphalink.com.au/~gregr/)] for Web and Mail (sharing without router). It works with QTmail, Netfront with 192.168.129.2:6588 proxy adress... Opera doesn\'t find it.. opera.ini is no writable

Opera doesn\'t find the Proxy
Quick replay... Excite translation (Japan to English)
from: http://www014.upp.so-net.ne.jp/boxer-j/opera7.html (http://www014.upp.so-net.ne.jp/boxer-j/opera7.html)
A setup of a proxy
Value of type of /home/root/Applications/Network/modules/Proxies.conf It changes into 2.
When it is made a setup using a proxy by network setup in SL-C860, in the setting file of /home/root/Applications/Network/modules / bottom, it is type. = it is set up with 1.
If Opera7 is type = 1, it will serve as [Don\'t know how to use proxy autoconfig], and will become an error.
Since it is reflected whenever it makes network connection, Proxies.conf is the conf files (DialUp.conf etc.) of each connection place of /home/root/Applications/Network/modules / bottom. type = 1
If it changes into type = 2, it will be reflected in Proxies.conf at the time of connection.
If [setting]-[network setting] to the proxy of QT is set up again, since it will return to type = 1, it is careful.
GOOD........

For those that wish to change the Startup screen image there are a few caveats:
1. Your bitmap needs to be 24-bit color 480x640 so the image will be a sideways portrait instead of a landscape image.
2. The startup screen file location is /home/QtPalmtop/pics144/Startup_screen.bmp.bz2
3. Delete the link under /home/QtPalmtop/pics144/Startup_screen.bmp.bz2 to /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/pics144/Startup_screen.bmp.bz2 before copying your new image in place.
4. You will need to edit a line in /home/QtPalmtop/qpe.sh:
From ...
bzcat /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/pics144/Startup_screen.bmp.bz2 ] /tmp/Startup_screen.bmp
To...
bzcat /home/QtPalmtop/pics144/Startup_screen.bmp.bz2 ] /tmp/Startup_screen.bmp
Then you should be set. I have a pretty kewl Debian startup screen for those that are interested here:

When I have long file (40MB movie) in /home/zaurus/Documents directory, that zaurus is freezed
for about 10-15 seconds after Resume.
What about if you play it from SD or CF card?
-
great works! while I\'m still playing around with the new rom, i have a very silly problem: I can\'t type the question mark (?)! it just shows nothing when I press the key.
There is a possibility to attribute keystroke to switch off zaurus, like :
\"ctrl (japan key) + space\" ]] switch off.
You can switch on and off, only with keyboard (like my old Psion)

Not yet, but there willl be a patch available in a few days that will fix sorting issue in addressbook. The patch will be applied on 1.21 ROM without reflashing.

You can disable screen saver applet completely by deleting the following links:
rm -f /home/QtPalmtop/plugins/applets/liblusscreensaver.so.*
Then terminate Qtopia and let it restart.

I installed the earlier versions of prboom & the libSDL (1.2.5) and now it works fine.
Jerry
I\'m feeling a bit stupid, but just can\'t get PrBoom to run correctly on the Cacko ROM.
If I run it from the command line (or from the icon without magnification), prboom runs, but rotated sideways. When I activate the maginification setting, and click on the icon, the screen resolution changes (white please wait screen) and then after a while just returns to the normal screen.
I have tried the following versions of libSDL:
libsdl_1.2.5-slzaurus20030704
libsdl_1.2.5-slzaurus20031204
libSDL_1.2.5cvs-1
libSDL_1.2.6cvs-1
libSDL_1.2.6-zports_c7x0-0
libSDL_1.2.6-zports_c7x0-1
and the following versions of prboom:
2.2.3-2
2.2.4-zports
Which combination of SDL and prboom worked for you?
Are you passing any command line parameters (other than wad file) to prboom, or setting any environment variables?
(I\'m having more or less the same problems with scummvm. )
I\'d be very greatful for any help.

My proxy uses port 8080

Opera works only with proxy:8080, not without ? (same thing for Netfront).
I tested with port 8080 and I have the same error before changing the \"type = 2\" in Proxies.conf ???
After, it works and Opera shows :
\"Receiving data from (192.168.129.2)....\" you have same message with your IP:8080 ??
Can you post your Proxies.conf

In keyhelper.conf
[Launch]
V = Multimedia/kino2
K =Applications/embeddedkonsole
Z =Applications/zeditor
M =Multimedia/mpegplayer
A =Pim/addressbook
Backspace=__9quit
Now i use [Address] + [BS] .. switch.off

Did you also install the sdl mixer & net libs?
Yes, I do hove the mixer and net libs installed - the music in prboom works great with the timidity patches.
I\'ll try it without mixer and net, and see if that helps.

Do anyone has trouble with the PPP connection to PC using BT? After upgrade to v1.21, I can\'t connect to my WIN-XP PC using PPP via BT. I have not tried v1.2 but when I was using v1.18, it should be ok.
When I ran
pppd call BT-WINXP debug -detach
it returned
connect script failed
I\'ve tried to rebuild my incoming connection and virtual com port but no luck.
I don\'t repeat the details but I\'ve posted in here. (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3311)

\"type=2\".. Good ! It\'s my problem.. My Proxies.conf shows \"type=1\".. with \"2\", it works. But QTopia rewrites the file.. so i made a script with a good proxy file, such as \"cd... cp ProxiesO.conf Proxies.conf & opera\"

Hi...got some problem finding menu 5. I am using C760. I did steps 1 to 10 with no problems. After I choose 2 for step 10. I get a warning sign asking me whether I want to flash or not( its in japanese, I guess thats what it says) Should I press OK? Will it then move me to another menu to be able to choose 5 to flash the partition? Thanks
LK
13. Now select \"1 Install new ROM\" and wait - Zaurus will reboot.

Would anyone be kind enough to post success stories along with instructions on how to get the Ambicom BT2000E (rounded, solid black top) Bluetooth CF working with a fresh flashing of this ROM? I\'m following the how-to instructions found on this site, with the non-preempt bluez ipk (not sure what is not being preempted, but the preempt package generates errors during install).
I seem to have the same difficulties as described in this post:
http://www.zaurususergroup.com/index.php?n...onfig+inquiring (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2062&highlight=sdptool+hciconfig+inquiring)
Also, does anyone know a way to backup and restore wlan configurations (ssid\'s, WEP keys, etc) across rom flashes?
Finally, does anyone else have this problem with opera whereby \'g\' does not open up the \"open url\" dialog? functionality was there in the 1.20 ROM
sorry if any of these questions don\'t belong in this topic; will move them if necessary.
thanks!

Most bluetooth CF cards, including Ambicom BT2000E are supported out of the box. You don\'t need to install any additional packages and/or edit any configuration files. Just insert the card and go to network setting to configure your bluetooth connection.
Also, does anyone know a way to backup and restore wlan configurations (ssid\'s, WEP keys, etc) across rom flashes?
Network setting are stored in /home/zaurus/Applications/network directory. You can back it up and then restore to the new ROM.
Note: After you restore your settings, make sure to open your settings in the network setup application and click OK button. This will update nessesary configuration files. If you just copy the files, it will not work!
Finally, does anyone else have this problem with opera whereby \'g\' does not open up the \"open url\" dialog? functionality was there in the 1.20 ROM
This is a known bug in Opera build included in this ROM. It was discovered too late to be fixed.

There is no /dev/irda0 device file on this ROM. I see in dmesg that the device is registered \"IrDA: Registered device irda0\", but no device. I only see /dev/ircomm. I also have been unable to change the settings of any of the sysctl stuff under /proc/sys/net/irda like \"# echo 1000]/proc/sys/net/irda/min_tx_turn_time\". When I try to beam files from the file manager I see a big red X and \"IrDA is not enabled\". Does anyone know the Major/Minor numbers for /dev/irda0 or am I completely missing something?
Thanks!

OK, I\'ve put down the crack pipe with not having /dev/irda0 (It is a network interface not a device).
But still, I am unable to communicate with any of the known good devices in my office. It would be great to know that I am the only one with this problem.

I just sent and received files between a C760 with a fresh install of Cacko 1.21 and a Palm Pilot. It worked fine.
-
One slightly annoying thing I\'ve noticed with Cacko 1.21 is that the orange charge light only stays on for about a minute when the power supply is plugged in. The applet monitor shows that the unit is charging ok, and if I pull the power lead out and plug it back in, the light comes back on, but only for a minute or so.
The plug on my power supply is a little bit loose, so I rely on the light to know that a proper connection is being made.
[PS: Anyone know where I can get the correct sized plug from - the local tandy wasn\'t much help]

X/qt and / problem fixed.
Apparently there is a conflict with /home/zaurus/Applications/cyrillica/english and /home/zaurus/Settings/keyhelper.xml
Removing the following (see below) from keyhelper.xml and restarting Qtopia fixes it. The old behavior is back however, to witness xhost + and startup an xterm from another host but send to the zaurus display. / and . keys send: ; and . unshifted and J and * shifted. All local apps OK.
The VNC I built for X/qt also has problems with the / and . keys. shift-. comma, and shift-comma send nothing. This is also evident when you run the keyhelper app in the setup tab.
I tried dumping the custom maps in /home/zaurus/Applications/cyrillica/english and fixing keyhelper.xml to display the \'?\' however X/qt had problems.
Bottom line removing the code below gets it back to the way 1.20 worked. Long term a better solution for the / and . keys would be nice.

IR breaks after you install libopieobex 1.0.3. On a fresh install it is fine. I\'m looking at how I can get a work around at the moment, but I think this means that the Opie PIMs might have problems on this ROM.
-
Hope someone can please advise!
Just took the plunge and reflashed my C860 with the latest Cacko QT ROM.
Followed instructions carefully and everything seemed to go OK.
However, after I did the step \"Install New ROM\" and it installed OK and then got message saying
\"Cacko Linux Installer
Congratulations!
Cacko Linux ROM installed on your Zaurus SL-C860!
Probably, you want format Internal user flash now?
<Yes> <No> \"
Since the message said \"Probably, you want\" I figured that this is what you should do, so I said Yes and it did the format.
Then when it rebooted I got the start screen that says \"SHARP\" in big red letters with the words \"Please wait....\" in small black letters below. Also, I see a \'#\' symbol and flashing cursor in the lower left corner of the screen.
Well, that was about a 1/2 hour ago and I still just see this screen.
Is this normal???
If not, what should I do now??
Thanks!!
Mark

Did you repartition to 27MB ?
-
Maslovsky,
I did a test with IR.
We tried IR between a 5500 and a Nokia 6310, that worked.
We tried IR between a Nokia 6310 and my C860, that failed.
We tried IR between a 5500 and my C860, that failed.
It works on my C860 with tkcROM (so it\'s not hardware), but not with Elena, but I don\'t want to keep flashing (done too much recently) so I cannot try it with Daniella, but I think that had the problem too.
Someone else mentioned modules, is there a module missing? I\'m at a loss.

Doesn\'t apply in my case, I dont have it installed.
-
Did you repartition to 27MB ?
Yes, I did that!
As I mentioned I followed all the instructions....
Only thing I did that is not on instructions was the issue I mentioned about doing the \'format Internal user flash\' after the \'Install New ROM\' step.
Any suggestions??
Thanks!

It has happened to me on occasion, reformat the CF card, put the three files back on and try again.

It has happened to me on occasion, reformat the CF card, put the three files back on and try again.
Thanks again for your help padishah!
Actually, just tried flashing again while waiting for a reply....
While flashing seems to work, I still CAN\'T boot up my Z. It hangs on the SHARP (big red letters) start up screen. Also, just see a \"#\" symbol and flashing cursor next to it in lower left corner of screen.
Please see my previous message above. I wrote down exactly what the screen message is and edited the post above to reflect the actual message.
Thanks for any suggestions!!
Mark
Would like to have working C860!

I want to return a \"kanji\" key to the standard.
Can I do it if I do what?
-
It has happened to me on occasion, reformat the CF card, put the three files back on and try again.
OK, just tried that and still get the same result!
While I get messages from installer that install went OK, when my C860 reboots all I see is the startup screen with the words \"SHARP\" in big red letters and \"Please wait....\" in small black letters below that.
Also, at the very bottom of the display there\'s a black horizontal band across the bottom. In the left corner of this band there\'s a \" # \" symbol and a flashing cursor. After 5 minutes or so, the cursor disappeared and instead I see \" . \" next to the \" # \" symbol. Also, I the \"Mail\" green light indicator is blinking on and off....
Hmmm....the \"Mail\" green light stopped blinking...if I hit \"enter\" key the blinking cursor comes back....
Is this progress??
Should I just let the Z keep running for some time to see if it ever completes booting??
OR....Can someone PLEASE advise??? :?:
Right now I\'ve got a very expensive paperweight sitting here!
Thanks!

Thanks for suggestion amrein! (I assume that was for me..)
Just tried typing \"startx\" at the cursor then hit \"enter\". Get the blinking cursor back but nothing else has happened. It\'s been more than 5 minutes...
Any other suggestions???

Did you try reformating cf card and download the ROM again as padishah recommended? One of the files may be corrupt. If you can get to the flash menu, you don\'t have a brick; if all else fails you can flash to another ROM.
Good luck,
Jerry

Thanks for your help Jerry!
I reformatted my CF card, but did NOT redownload ROM file... I just thought that files themselves were OK....
However, I can try redownloading files later and then will try flashing again....
Yes, I can get to flash menu, no problem with that at least...

Woohooo!!!! I\'ve got Cack ROM!!!
Redownload Cacko ROM file
Put onto newly formatted CF card
Went through install process....
& Voila!!!
This time it worked!!
just finished installing the HotFix file and it installed fine and rebooted Z OK!!
All is good right now in Z-Land!!
Now onto reinstalling my apps and data....
THANKS TO ALL WHO\'VE HELPED!!!
Your help and support was REALLY APPRECIATED!!

I\'ve got a SD write problem. When I connect my Z to PC via BT PAN, I can\'t move files from PC to SD card directly! It starts copying files and then an error pops up with something like \"the network path is not available\"
However, it works perfectly in reverse direction (from SD to PC). Also, it has no problem with main flash memory.
I\'m sure that I don\'t have this problem with v1.18. Any suggestion?
-
Type mount and see if /usr/mnt.rom/card is ro or rw. Once my SD mounted (ro). A mount -o remount,rw fixed it.
-
Forgot to say in my last post...
Thanks to Maslovsky for providing such a great ROM to the Z community!
The ROM looks great and works well so far on my C860!
Thanks,

A few things to try:
- does that happen with CF card?
- eject/insert SD card
- try another SD card
- reboot and try steps 2-3
-

Yes, it\'s mounted as rw.
Sorry to mention that the problem only happens via BT PAN. The SD works normally when I move the files in and out in my Z.
A few things to try:

I\'ve rebooted and tried again using same SD but still, no luck to make it. After a few more trials, the problem seems not to be a dead fault. Occassionally, I can write some files but for a large file transfer, say ]400kB, the problem occurs.
I only have one SD and I\'d try to get another. Just scanning previous posts that in this version of rom, the kernel is recompiled to disable the CONFIG_FS_SYNC. I\'m using vfat format and it seems that the new setting is more suitable for ext2 according to the post. Don\'t know if this is the reason b\'coz I don\'t know how to test it.

I had the same problem first time I installed 1.21. I managed to see lots of error messages about corrupt Tar headers flash by second time around. I then downloaded a new copy of the archive from a different feed (the Freench Zaurus site as far as I recall) and everything went smoothly. Perhaps one of the feeds has a corrupt archive?
Hope this helps. :-)

I\'ve just tried beming between my S55 phone and SL-5500. Everything worked fine in both directions. Try to reboot your zaurus.
You have a S55, like me. But i have some problems with my zaurus (C750 Elena). I can beam address to my S55, but when i beam to my zaurus i have an error message and only a file is copied in /tmp/obex.
When i used my S55 as modem (GSM not GPRS), it works one time and after i can\'t reconnect...
You change some configuration files ??
Thx Stef.

Yeah, thanks Maslovsky, your efforts help to make the best handheld computer on the planet even better, kudos to you.
I think my IRDA problem is linked (somehow) to a package called dummy-dev which lets me use mail/web via usbnet. Am I being a complete spack doing this? do I need dummy-dev to do web/mail via usbnet? Doesn\'t seem to work without it. I used dummy-dev on a 5500 and just assumed I\'d need it on the 860 too.
\"Elena\" is my kinda girl ;-)

Yes, I\'ve double checked and it seems that there must be some incompatibilities between the data sent from S55. Zaurus fails to recognize it...
I think such problem was always there in all Sharp ROMs...

I think this is caused by the BT driver. I\'ve commented out the /etc/pcmcia/bluetooth.conf for all unused BT except Nokia DTL-1 and found that the performance improved. Before commenting out, I could only transfer <400kB files from PC to Z via BT but now, I can transfer >800k file. But still, the transfer fails if file size > 1MB.
Anyone got similar problem?[/code]

I\'ve finally upgraded to 1.21 and applied HotFix A. I have a couple of problems:
1. When setting the PC Link to TCP/IP, both network interfaces come up but I can\'t get any traffic through (ping times out)
2. When setting the PC Link to USB Storage, when I plug it in the network interfaces come up (as if it was set to USB Storage)
On my desktop I\'m running Gentoo Linux, I tried with kernel 2.6.5-mm and 2.6.6-mm-rc2. Any ideas?

I finally got a stable BT! Dunno why, but if I set the clock to \"PXA250\", it works! Now, I can get a very stable BT connection with my PC and mobile phone.
Just one minor problem: I can\'t \"press\" and \"hold\" the stylus when using NetFront. Instead of showing a quick menu, it just highlight the hyperlinks and flashing, as if I was moving the stylus.

I too am experiencing this problem. I\'m using a C750 with Cacko 1.21A with the large capacity battery and I am unable to charge it for more than a minute unless I completely power it down.
Apparently after that minute it thinks it\'s charged, so it stops charging the battery, but once AC power is removed it knows that it\'s only got the % it had before charging (or perhaps 1% more).
Anyone have a fix (other than completely powering down the system to charge it)?
-
I have a C760, and I just plugged it into the adaptor whilst turned on, my orange light has been on for at least 3 minutes now. As I speak, it just went 5 minutes elapsed on orange light (because the fish screen saver just kicked in!)
Note that I am using the power supply from my SL5000, not the 110V one I received with the default packaging.
-
I am a new user of the SL-C860 who is experiencing problems when opening large pdf or word documents, since using the Cacko Rom 121 w/hotfix A. When opening the documents in HancomWord and PDF the hourglass appears then after 20 secs disappears. The same documents could be successfully opened when i had I used the original Sharp Rom.
Is it a memory problem?
Thanks in advance.

The only other idea I have is to make a backup of your data, then perform a clean ROM flash without restoring your backup first. If it works, then restore your backup and try again. If it fails then there is something you\'ve done in the configuration that breaks USB storage funcitonality...

Has anyone noticed that sometimes the clock changes to funny japanese charchters? with the 1.2.1 ROM? the only way to fix it is to reboot.

On closer inspection it\'s not really japanese charchters , it\'s just corrupted fonts and the problem appears to happen when exiting an old (none High res.) potrait style app and switching back to landscape mode - the battery info is also unreadable - sometimes the whole system will crash as well (something about modules.conf being more recent than something else, it flashes past rather quickly) - any ideas?

I don\'t recommend using that mode at all (if possible) - its implementation in Qtopia is buggy...

Do you mean not using Portrait only applications or swiveling the screen around and letting Qtopia change the current onscreen app to portrait mode - I.e with Hancom Word or something. (I have not had a problem with any of the apps on your ROM with this functionality only other apps I have installed.).

Yep, do an \"echo XXX ] /proc/cccr_change\", where XXX is a number depending on what CPU/Bus/Mem speed you need. Look up the actual numbers in /home/zaurus/Settings/freqchange.conf

2. When setting the PC Link to USB Storage, when I plug it in the network interfaces come up (as if it was set to USB Storage)
On my desktop I\'m running Gentoo Linux, I tried with kernel 2.6.5-mm and 2.6.6-mm-rc2. Any ideas?
Did you try on another PC?
I\'ve tried it with several PC\'s, both Linux and Windows. Same thing, I have PC Link set to USB Storage and I get a TCP/IP link.
The only other idea I have is to make a backup of your data, then perform a clean ROM flash without restoring your backup first. If it works, then restore your backup and try again. If it fails then there is something you\'ve done in the configuration that breaks USB storage funcitonality...
I haven\'t had the time to do the full backup-flash-test-restore song and dance, but I got a new data point from a bit of reverse engineering. I changed the profile to Network, went into the Settings directory and did an ls -lt. The files with the latest timestamp were route.conf and usbdstorage.conf. route.conf contained the string \"Network\". Then I switched back to USB Storage, checked the files again and route.conf STILL had the string \"Network\".
So, is this where the ROM stores the current PC Link config? If so, then for some reason it isn\'t being updated. What is the value it should hold for USB Storage? Otherwise, where does the ROM store this info?
-

Hi mcamou, i have a c860 with cacko 1.21. I found this problem as well. Here\'s my solution which seems to work. It seems to happen after i reboot (only have it two days yet btw!). The solution is, plug in the usb cable, set the option to tcp/ip and click okay. Then go back in and select the sd/cf card and click okay. My Z comes up with a dialog saying usb alert. now plug out the cable click okay and plug the cable in. it should work now. will work as long as you don\'t reboot. if it doesn\'t work, i\'ll check it further.

Has anyone noticed that in the Week view the letter describing the days of the week are not in English IE: Sunday the 16th of May reads: 16n .
In any other view (Day, month and year) they are in English - is there anyway to fix this.
Thanks in advance.

Hi omega,
Well, the thing about the TCP/IP link not responding cleared itself up automagically, I\'m not sure what I did but TCP/IP is now working. I did the song-and-dance you mentioned in your post and that also worked, so I\'m back in business! Thank you!

I have a Win2K box that recognizes the Z when I plug it in to USB; however, when I attempt to access the \"Removable Disk\" I get a \"Disk not formatted\" error. I am using a 4GB microdrive, is it necessary to reformat it over USB to get the mass storage to work. The drive is already formatted FAT32.
-
I haven\'t had the time to do the full backup-flash-test-restore song and dance, but I got a new data point from a bit of reverse engineering.
You probably have permission problems in the /etc/hotplug directory. Make sure that usbdstorage.conf and usbd.ftype have write perms for root at least - I made write for root and group qpe.
usbdstorage.conf holds the path that the usb storage will mount (/dev/hda1 for CF and /dev/mmcda1 for SD), while usbd.ftype is the controlling file for choosing between usb storage and usb network (it can have the values \"storage\" or \"net\").

Calendar:
Has anyone noticed that in the Week view the letter describing the days of the week are not in English IE: Sunday the 16th of May reads: 16n .
In any other view (Day, month and year) they are in English - is there anyway to fix this.
Thanks in advance.
G.
Nice catch! Yes, this can be fixed by installing calendar application from 5600 or 6000 device.
I will include this update with the next Cacko ROM hotfix

I fumbled while adjusting the brightness on my Zaurus (via the brightness applet) and disabled the display. Now after every reboot the screen is disabled. I found this Japanese site:
http://digit.que.ne.jp/visit/index.cgi?Lin...%A5%E2%2FQtopia (http://digit.que.ne.jp/visit/index.cgi?Linux%A5%B6%A5%A6%A5%EB%A5%B9%B3%AB%C8%AF%A5%E1%A5%E2%2FQtopia)
With the following translated tip:

(config value) brightness appointment of 1< # back light. In
regard to utility 30, 100, 200, 300 and the like. Max of A300 is

I think that they are speaking about the Qtopia API and not about where the configuration is stored. So, it does not serve much use to me.
Does the above point anyone else to where the brightness of the display is kept in Qtopia or how to re-enable my display?
Thanks!
-
You can try to connect to your Zaurus via SSH client and ther issue from console:
qcop QPE/System \"setBacklight (int)\" 1
-
Thanks for the suggestion maslovsky. Although qcop accepted the arguments the display is still disabled. I guess I\'ll have to try reinstalling the ROM.
Thanks for your help.
-
stupkid, have you tried using the keyboard to brighten up the display? That usually works for me... (Fn+4)
Stubear, that did it! Turns out /etc/hotplug/usbdstorage.conf was 644 instead of 664 (the group was already set to qpe). Maslovsky, could you fix this in the next rev?
-
I feel like a moron. That worked.
Thanks mcamou!

Hi there,
I\'m using the latest and greatest Cacko QT Rom and have installed X/QT in it. While some programs from the pdaXrom feed work great (e.g. gimp and the Mac emulator basilisk 2) others fail because of a missing library (libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0). Can anyone point me to where I could get this lib?
Thanks for taking the time to read

Anton, I\'m having some problems with the English-UK keymap [ctrl]+o gives me a { but [ctrl]+p gives either a £ pound sign or a square, where is the close brace } ?
Also the on-screen keyboard appears to have a problem when displaying capitals with the middle row reading:
ASDEFGHKL instead of..
ASDFGHJKL
I don\'t know how to fix this, any help is appreciated.

My Anycom Bluetooth CF card won\'t get recognized.
When I plug it in, nothing happens, so I take it it\'s not recognized. This way I can\'t use Bluetooth.
What can I do to make the Cacko ROM recognize.
Can anyone help me? And after I recognize it, how do you use Bluetooth out of the box? Just set up some Networking connection?

Anyone have screenshots of the CackO ROM on a c7x0?
Also, for the newbie, what are the pros/cons of this ROM vs the stock Sharp ROM on a c7x0?
Thanks,

I think he meant the Cacko QT ROM.
mls64, No there are no screenshots I know of. It looks the same as the stock ROM, no Java or Japanese dictionary though.

Yes it is, but it\'s been customized, he made his own themes, did the same following his instructions.

There seems to be a conflict between { } characters defined in /home/zaurus/Settings/keyhelper.xml and pound sign defined in UK keymap (/home/zaurus/Applications/cyrillica/english-uk).
To fix this, you\'ll have to sacrifice one of the symbols - either remap pound sign to another key by editing english-uk keymap or remap { } symbols defined in keyhelper.xml.
Also english-uk file contains definitions for characters to be displayed on the on-screen keyboard. You can update it.
Please, send me the updated keymap file, so that I can include it into the ROM hotfix update.

This is unusual, your card should be supported. Please, post or send me me the output of the following commands when you insert your card after you reboot your zaurus.
dmesg

OK. I did a reboot. Then entered the card. Then I get the following:

Looks like your Anycom card may have a newer revision. Try to add the following into /etc/pcmcia/bluetooth.conf:
card \"LSE139 Bluetooth Compact Flash Card\"
manfid 0x0264, 0x000b
bind \"bluecard_cs\"
Then reboot your Zaurus. If the card does not work after that - you may be out of luck...
-
Thank you very much for helping me.
I wasn\'t out of luck Luckily
I edited the /etc/pcmcia/bluetooth.conf file as advised, rebooted.
Then the Zaurus recognized the card when inserted, the card\'s light goes on now and I see a Network icon in the task tray. I guess that\'s because I created some Bluetooth network connection just to see.
So again, thanks a lot, really.
Now I have to figure out how to use the Bluetooth to connect with my phone.
I\'ll check the how-to that\'s available here and see. However, if anyone can give me quick advice in what to do, I\'d be gracious, though I know, this question is probably not for this thread
Anyway I\'ll try...
Thanks...
-
OK, maybe not out of the woods yet. Don\'t know if this is just a setup problem...
Like I said above, restarted, the card got recognized on insertion, its light lit up for a while.
Then I proceeded to setup Bluetooth services, following the Bluetooth howto http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...ename=Bluetooth (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index&pagename=Bluetooth)
Set up a Bluetooth connection in the Networking tab, just selected Add, didn\'t edit any of the options and saved it with OK.
Then, like it says, I went to a command prompt and did sdptool browse to which I immediately, i.e. no delay, no card\'s light flashing, got the following:
Inquiring ...
Inquiry failed
Also just out of curiosity, I tapped the Globe icon in the tray, that represents the Bluetooth connection. It asked for the pin, I put in the pin, than it says Initializing modem and that\'s it, this doesn\'t disappear, nothing further happens.
What\'s wrong? Am I doing something wrong?
-
Additionally, I have just now looked at the Socket CF Bluetooth Rev 2.5G thead here http://zaurususergroup.com/index.php?name=...etooth&start=30 (http://zaurususergroup.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=2275&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=bluetooth&start=30) where part of the symptoms were the same, i.e. the user, after his card was recognized and did sdptool browse he got the Inquiry failed response, just like me.
In it it was recommended that he do cardctl resume and /etc/pcmcia/bluetooth restart, so I tried.
The results:
cardctl resume
ioctl(): Device or resource busy
/etc/pcmcia/bluetooth restart

Maybe that\'s why the Inquiry fails?
What\'s wrong?

Furthermore, thought this might be of importance. I get the following from hciconfig

First of all, you should not have installed any additional bluetooth drivers whn using Cacko ROM 1.2x. Npw if you uninstall them, you\'ll most likely get a non-working bluetooth configuration. Did you make a backup of your Zaurus before installing bluetooth drivers? If you did -restore it. If not, then you\'d better reflash the ROM. Then update config file again and post me the result of hciconfig and dmesg commands after the card is inserted.
-
I didn\'t install any other Bluetooth drivers, just tried following the sequence of commands
Anyhow, I restored my Zaurus to the Sharp Japese ROM yesterday to copy the origininal Japanese fonts.
Then reflashed with Cacko ROM 1.21, so now have a clean Zaurus with nothing else installed. Updated the /etc/pcmcia/bluetooth.conf file as directed.
Now it recognizes the card upon insertion, followed by the card\'s light being lit up for a couple of secs.
The two commands now give me the following output:
hciconfig

Looks like your card is not supported by the bluecard_cs module. Try to bind it to other bluetooth driver modules. If none of them work - then you\'re definitely out of luck
-
Thank you, I\'ll try right away.
This might be a dumb question, but which directory are all the modules in, so that I can try one after the other. I can\'t find them, so don\'t know which ones to try...
Thanks.
-
OK, am out of luck
Never mind the above, I found the location of the modules. Tried every one errors.
So no, what are my options?
Can I use any other ROM? The Zaurus original and Cacko don\'t work. Is there a possibility TKC will work or pdaXrom? Should I try?
Also if not, I\'d try contacting the seller and give the card back to them, they ain\'t gonna refund me the cash, but I could maybe ask if I could change it for an older revision and pay some extra...
For this, how do I check than that the card I want to buy will work?
I specifically bought the Anycom card, because all I read everywhere, it said it works... Booh, boo
What can I do?
-
The problem with your card is that it looks like Anycom (like many other manufacturers) started to produce new revisions of their cards, which are not yet supported by any linux bluez drivers. The best option for you would be to replace the card witjh older revision (if possible) or with another supported card, like Ambicom BT2000E (not C) or Socket.
-
Is it possible to tell from the card which revision it is, and if I get an Anycom again which revision I should get?
-

I don\'t know about Anycom card. Ambicom card BT2000E is the one without LEDs. Possibly old revision of Anycom card does not have LEDs too.

I am a new owner of a C860 from Dynamism. I am trying different ROM to find the one I like the best or maybe have a multiboot option. I am very familiar with Linux on the desktop but newbie in regards to PDA and right now I am confused by all the different ROMS. I flashed pdaxrom on the C860 and like it very much. I would like now to try OZ but can\'t find any instructions on how to either restore Sharp ROM and/or install OZ. Also I am confused about all the different ROM names. For example in this thread is mentioned Cacko (is this pdaXrom?), conics web site, Opie, OZ, maslovky?
How can I go from pdaXrom back to Sharp ROM or directly to OZ? Any help greatly appreciated
TIA
Pascal

Maslovsky, I\'ve done a reflash of the ROM because I was bored but now when I do a \'modprobe usbnet\' I get:
Note: /etc/modules.conf is more recent than /lib/modules/2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix/modules.dep
modprobe: Can\'t locate module usbnet
It worked before I flashed, I don\'t want to flash again and I haven\'t modified modules.conf
Also can anyone send me the original startup screen?
-
I would like say thanks to Maslovsky for the ROM. Very impressive and I am one happy user.
I have been trying to set up my bluetooth card without much success. I have followed a number of threads on the subject all to no effect.
I would agree that adding bluez files as per the ‘how to page’ does not help with the Cacko 1.21a. It did nothing other than require yet another re flash.
Sadly I think that Maslovsky may well be right about the drive support for newer cards.
In the off chance that anyone has any good ideas this is the brief out line.
Card : Blue Monkey, FCC ID PANBT010M
Cardctl ident: Socket 0:
Product info: “Bluetooth BT0100Mâ€, “â€, “â€
Function : 2 (Serial)
Cardctl status: Scocket 0:
3.3v 16-bit PC Card
function 0: [ready]
And I get a funky blue led that flashes.
Machine is a C860 with Cacko 1.21a and no other extras (as yet)
No other commands indicate that the existence of the card has been recognised. It responds to card being stopped and restarted, at least the led stops and starts. My belief is that the drives have not been picked up for it. This is most probably due the “product info†description not being in the file containing the bind instructions. This is also probably due the card not being supported.
Two things I would like answers to are
a) Is there any significance in the ident being function 2 and the staus being function 0?
Most cards have at least 2 fields in there product information description were at this card has one full field and 2 nulls. How should it be described in the /etc/pcmcia/bluetooth.conf ?
For background I am an ancient 6502 assembler programmer, no we have not all died we look that way. I also spend 5 years as an administrator on a small unix system some 15 years ago, man do I wish had not given my books and notes away!
All of which will probably classify me as dangerous out of date and far too gung ho!

There is no such modules in the ROM. You\'ve probably installed some packages that contained tha module.

It looks like manufacturers are moving to the new chipsets for their bluetooth cards, which don\'t seem to be well supported on Linux.
You can give it another try by playing with /etc/bluetooth/uarts config file and trying to add different parameters for your card. Maybe it will work.

Hi!
Just a newbie question regarding the ROM installation instructions. The instructions say:
\"IMPORTANT: This ROM requries a flash partition at least 27 MBytes in size!
Make sure to repartition your internal flash before updating ROM! \"
How do I do this on a C860? I want to install the latest Cacko ROM as soon as I get my C860 and this instruction does not make too much sense(no offense intented Maslovsky! ).
I will probably copy the ROM files to a CF or SD card(at least 256MB) located in the Z from my PC(I don\'t have a card reader/writer). Once done , I will then follow the instructions.
Any clarity on the matter will be much appreciated!
-
\"IMPORTANT: This ROM requries a flash partition at least 27 MBytes in size!

How do I do this on a C860?
You will see such option in the menu when you follow flash instructions.
-
When I flashed the rom on my 860 I first set it to 27Mb which worked fine, I have also set it to 50 which it says is the default and that works too.
-
Opps, Sorry I forgot to mention that there is an extra screen that appears on the 860 (well on mine any way) from the standard lists on steps of what to do. It is all in Japanese. However it just a \"do you really want to do this?\" screen, it is referring to flashing the ROM. Just pick the button with (y) on it. I think it\'s the left one.

Hi!
Are there any another links for downloading 1.21? The one in the ZUG downloads does not get picked up by my \"Download Accelerator\" on my Window$ box at work, it tries to download \"217\", in stead of the file.
Any other direct link to the file will be much appreciated.
Thanks!
-
Hopefully this will take you to the Cacko ROM down loads. Part way down you will find the 1.21 ROM, then there some patches you can apply afterwards. Copy them to your SD, CF or Internal memory then use the program install routine.
http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...q=getit&lid=217 (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=UpDownload&file=index&req=getit&lid=217)
If it does not work, go to the home (Click on the little guys in the top left), pick downloads from the bar and pick Cacko roms from the list.
-
Hi all,
Firstly, awesome rom, and great updates. I finally bit the bullet and switched, and it\'s gratifying to see how well assembled and managed the Cacko rom is.
I have a request for the next version or kernel - could you please make the [./] and [.?] keys no longer hardcoded to their specific functions? I would like to change their config in keyhelper, but keyhelper does not seem to be able to pick up the keycodes for either of these keys anymore.
Thanks,
Yz
-
Personally I like it set up that way. That way the / key and CTRL and ALT keys work in the \"pre-qtopia\" console. I think it is in the kernel, b/c that is the only way to make them work. Keyhelper doesn\'t load before qtopia.
Sounds like we need more \"options\"
Hate to see him trying to keep 3 or 4 kernels up to date though. We almost need to make a \"roll your own kernel\" config script where you could install an easy package on a Linux box and then run a script that would ask a few questions and then roll a kernel for you with all the right options that maslovsky has found for us.
-
clofland, I dont get it. If it was done that way to make the keys available in the root console, I\'m not sure why both the CTRL and ALT keys are still accessible in keyhelperconf (in fact, I changed the alt key to \"/\" as I find it easier and quicker to hit) while the [,/] and [.?] are impossible to change???
I write a lot, so quick access to punctuation keys helps greatly. Nothing screws it up more than having to hit extra keys to generate a comma, one of the most common punctuation marks.
Personally, I\'m against \"hard coding\" anything on the Z (with no possibility of change), but hey - it\'s Cacko\'s rom. I do agree that it would be rough for them to start dealing with lot\'s of kernels. I hope there\'s a middle ground here (like the coding for the CTRL and ALT key that still allows keyconfig to work).

Has anyone noticed that this rom is very slow at opening spreadsheets ?
Not sure why, just noticed it when comparing 2 c750 units and opening the same file from an SD card.
Cacko rom unit took around 30 seconds to open a fairly simple excel file, normal rom took 10 seconds.
Measured using the same file on same SD card moved between units.
-
Yah, yzord, you have a good point on the / and , issue. What bugs me is that when I VNC into my Z now, I have to use the , key on my laptop to get a /
Could Keyhelper be used to basicaly map the / to a , and the , to a / ? In other words, if it is hard coded, then use keyhelper to reverse it? Does that make sense?
I need to play more with keyhelper, b/c personally I want to set mine up so that I can quickly switch between a couple of different configurations. If I\'m in QKonsole, shifting for / is a pain, but if I am in handword, shifting for , is a pain. Surely we could use keyhelper to switch this back and forth.
I\'ll play with it when I get a chance.
-
EDIT: Now if I would just READ yzord\'s post that clearly said that keyhelperconf doesn\'t even pick up the codes on the / and , key anymore, then I would not be wasting my time. Duh!
EDIT: I still LIKE it the way it is, but I wish keyhelper COULD figure out the key code for the modified / and , keys so it could be switched back \"on demand\" so to speak by modifying the XML file, and yet still work in the pre-qtopia console screen.
Actually, yzord, I see this code in /home/zaurus/Settins/keyhelper.xlm :
<mappings>
<!-- swap / and , -->
<define key=\"Comma\">
<map key=\"Slash\"/>
<map_modifier Shift=\"On\"/>
<map_unicode shift_unicode=\"/\"/>
</define>
<define key=\"Slash\">
<modifier Shift=\"On\"/>
<map key=\"Comma\"/>
<map_modifier Shift=\"Off\"/>
</define>
<define key=\"Comma\">
<modifier Shift=\"On\"/>
<map key=\"Comma\"/>
<map_modifier Shift=\"Off\"/>
</define>
Does modifying this not change the , and / back to their previous values?
I\'m gonna try it, and if it works, try to make some scripts to switch it back and forth so I can just hit an icon on the desktop to switch it and reload keyhelper.
-
Hi, a while back I asked about the Bluetooth support for the Anycom CF-300 card. We found out that the LSE139 card uses a new revision, not supported by bluecard_cs.
Now I\'ve looked at http://www.holtmann.org/linux/bluetooth/bluecard.html (http://www.holtmann.org/linux/bluetooth/bluecard.html) where it specifically says the new bluecard_cs driver supports it, this is also confirmed at http://www.holtmann.org/linux/bluetooth/devices.html (http://www.holtmann.org/linux/bluetooth/devices.html) and Anycom says the same thing at http://forum.anycom.com/viewtopic.php?t=119 (http://forum.anycom.com/viewtopic.php?t=119)
How can I get it working? How should I install the updated bluecard_cs driver?
Thanks for your help.
-
Zuber -- I use spreadsheets quite a bit and have noticed it takes quite awhile to load. I never did any comparison though and thought that might be a Hancom issue. I would like to hear from others what their experience is. Even simple sheets are slow to load on my Cacko 1.21 with 1.21b hotfix.
-
I only found out when someone else that bought a unit from us tried the cacko rom and found the problem and told us.
I just tested it to confirm. So there does appear to be a consistant problem with it on Cacko rom.
-
Hi there,
I\'m using the latest and greatest Cacko QT Rom and have installed X/QT in it. While some programs from the pdaXrom feed work great (e.g. gimp and the Mac emulator basilisk 2) others fail because of a missing library (libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0). Can anyone point me to where I could get this lib?
Thanks for taking the time to read
chris
Did you ever figure out this problem?
-
clofland, regarding the missing libraries you can link to qtopia ones. If you look around i have a post on this... more problems though after that for me.
-
How do I repartition the onboard flash like it says in the first post?
-
That's part of th installation process. The installer will prompt you.
-
I installed the Cacko ROM, the hotfix B, it booted once, and I was having the display "banding and ghosting" issue (c860) so I added the following
echo 75 > /proc/driver/w100/fastsysclk
to the /opt/QtPalmtop/qpe.sh script and it hangs on reboot. After the first Sharp screen I get:
INIT: Entering runlevel: 5
Wait....5 (counts down to 1)
Wait....1
Wait....1
etc, about 9 times, then:
INIT: ID "ln" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
followed by a blinking cursor (no # sign).
It looks as though adding the line to fix the ghosting to the qpe.sh script causes it to hang, unless I did something wrong?
I reflashed, and it runs, but the banding problem is back. I don't want to have to run the echo command every time I reboot - anyone have a fix?

Where did you put that command? What editor did you use?

I used ZEditor and put it towards the end just before the done command.

Here's the fix, from Maslovsky:
-----
Install Midnight Commander (available for download at this site), then go to console and type:
su
mc -a
Open qpe.sh in MC internal editor and enter the command:
echo 75 > /proc/driver/w100/fastsysclk
before the line containing "nice survive..." command.
Save the file, then either reboot or terminate Qtopia.
-----
It now boots perfectly, with no banding or ghosting!
Thanks to all!

I could not eject my bluetooth card (CC3040 Anycom BT CF card; model no. LSE039/5 R1A) on my c860, using Cacko 1.21b.
when i try to eject the card from the applet in task bar or using command "cardctl eject 0", my z just freeze. I can't even shut down my z via Fn+Home+flipping battery lock, i have to take out the battery to reboot my z.
I used this card with the original Sharp rom with no problem
but what's weird is that the Z have no problem recongizing the bt card in Cacko, and I can use it to connect to my pc via PAN , and use internet and samba
I have search for this forum for hrs, and i have tried to uninstall every ipk that I had installed, including the hotfix-b ipk, still no fix...
can someone plz help me to fix this problem
thank you for ur time and help~~~

Lumune,
Had this problem myself with a Bluemonkey card (LSE039/12 R2B) Zbones pointed me in the right direction on this one (and it was really annoying me until I got it fixed).
Edit /etc/pcmcia/bluetooth
Find the line that says 'hciconfig $2 down' and change it to 'hciconfig hci0 down' et voila.
Hope that works as well for you as it did for me !
BTW: Make sure that the line following 'hciconfig hci0 down' says 'sleep 1' as there are problems if the eject kicks in before the firmware on the card responds to the down.
Regards,
Andy

YES~~~~!!!
it works~~~ woohoo~~~!!!
Thank you very much iamasmith and also Zbones~~
I thought I have to switch back to the original Sharp rom ....
actually, i am wondering how on earth Zbones found out that's the problem...
anyway, thanks

actually, i am wondering how on earth Zbones found out that's the problem...
Trial and error, mixed with a bit of luck.
I figured out that configuring the card down before doing an eject works fine, so I just started hacking the scripts about a bit.
If an unlimited number of monkeys on an unlimited number of keyboards given an unlimited amount of time, can reproduce the complete works of shakespear then one monkey on one keyboard, could eventually stumble across the secret to fixing a blue monkey card.
PS, with the advent of the internet we now know that the original statement is untrue.
An unlimited number of monkeys on an unlimited number of keyboards simply produce an unlimited number of "make money fast" emails and fake v!agra adverts

Posted in other forum to see if anyone can offer some help, withour success, reposting here in the hope that someone can help, perhaps Maslovsky.
I have tried to flash to Cacko 1.21 ROM using 4 separate downloads, all appeared to flash successfully, although I did get the following error message during the ROM install process, on each occasion.
'modprob can't locate module devinfo' (assume device info required by IPK installer)
All the standard apps work, but I can't load new applications, using the installer, even hotfix B failed on 2 of the downloads. It gives 1 of 2 error messages 'ipkg says something went wrong. Sorry' or 'The filename of this package includes characters this application can't handle. Please change the filename and retry install'
Cacko ROM looks good, but I will need to return to Sharp ROM, if I can't resolve the problem, except I can't find the instructions to return, searched forum & how tos.

Update on previous post.
I can install any application that can run from a SD card, dosn't hep with installing hotfix B, but may throw some light on the problem.

It looks like flash update process did not complete quite well. Did you repartition uinternal flash before installing?

BTW: Make sure that the line following 'hciconfig hci0 down' says 'sleep 1' as there are problems if the eject kicks in before the firmware on the card responds to the down.
Regards,
Andy
Thanks, Zbones, Lumune, I'll mak sure this will be included in the next ROM update or hotfixю

I repartitioned to 27 on first attempt, now set at 30.
1st Reboot - option 5, flash partition to 30
2nd Reboot - option 4, format user flash
3rd Reboot - option 1, new ROM
I noticed that virtually all the software it complains about the filename, have a full stop in the name, for example:-
zsafe_2.1.3_arm.ipk
tkczip-c7xx_2.0-031205_arm.ipk
IPK Install & Files tab show nothing after the full stop, nor will the files tab allow you to enter a full stop.

27 worked for me.
I'm pretty sure the user partition format should be the last thing you do ...
Mike.

Mike
I believe I did the user partition format twice by selecting option 4 & then when it asks, at the end of the ROM install process.

Did you try installing from the command line?
You could always expand the ipks and copy the files to their final destinations manually. Pain in the bum, I know, but at least it would move you forward.
The ipkg howto is here:
http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...me=IPKG%20Howto (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index&pagename=IPKG%20Howto)

Thanks to Andy (iamasmith) & Mike (w14) who suggested I tried installing ipkg’s from the command line, I have got a bit nearer identifying the problem.
I tried to install 2 packages with the same result:-
ipkg install tkcexplorer-c7xx_2.0-040225_arm.ipk
The following package were previously requested but were not installed:
Error
Install them now [Y/n] ?
Entering ‘n’ resulted in the ipkg installing correctly, answering ‘y’ resulted in the following:-
Filename-_.ipk
Downloading /_.ipk …
/_.ipk: Invalid host name.
ipkg-download:ERROR: Failed to retrieve /_.ipk. returning ipkg_get_install: Perhaps you need to run ‘ipkg update’ ?
Any suggestions on how I fix it
Mike

OK Mike,
Go to /usr/lib/ipkg, take a safe copy of the file called 'status' and edit the file.
Remove any entries that don't show as installed then retry your install from the command line.
Give that a try and tell us what happens,
Andy

Thanks Andy, saved the day.
Everything now works from the command line & the GUI installer.
Any idea what caused the problem or why it happened on each of 4 installs?
Mike
-
No, not really but I know that if you try to install an IPK and it doen's then ipkg stacks it up to be installed at a later stage and keeps prompting you to say if you want to install it.
I had this with a few packages that would only install from the command line.
Glad to know you are on your way.

Andy

I think I have read sth abt error in installing ipk files
someone said when there is an error when u install an ipk file
Z will record the erro in some file, and that will prevent u from installing it again
so, u have to edit that file before u try again

Noticed that my C760 is spontaneously rebooting every 24/48 hours, as all the open apps have closed & I have a screen asking me to confirm time etc.
Usual loaded apps are StageOne, KO/Pi, Address Book & Portabase.
Has anyone any ideas.
Mike
-
Your Z is not spontaneously rebooting I think. Most likely you are experiencing the flakey libqt bug that causes Qtopia to crash unexpectedly. This can't be fixed since no one outside of Sharp has the source to this library. If ATI ever releases specs for their Imageon w100 chip there may be a chance that an open driver could be created. Until then we are all screwed.

I just installed the cacko rom and it is beautiful! Is there a cacko specific feed or does it share the pdaXrom feed? What, if any, packages have to be specifically compiled for this rom?
-
There is no Cacko specific feed...yet. I'm working on one for the 1.22 revision when it comes out. Until then you can try my personal feed:
http://www.bryandeluca.com/feed (http://www.bryandeluca.com/feed)
Many of the packages take some configuring, but it is as good as it gets for now. When the new ROM comes out I will have a feed that works as flawlessly as possible for Cacko. As a general rule any Package that works on the original Sharp ROM should work on Cacko.
Thanks!

Are there any specific considerations when compiling for 1.21? Or should the standard "how-to" http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...ompiler%20Setup (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index&pagename=Compiler%20Setup)
cover all concerns? I am currently seriously split between pdaXrom and cacko and packages available and ease of compile will effect that. That and the battery issues:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...5032&hl=battery (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=5032&hl=battery)
which are begining to seriously concern me. In the mean time, I am going to experiment with a dual boot:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...opic=1510&st=60 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1510&st=60)
Heh, sorry for seeming so multitopiced (if that is a word), just thought they all connected....
