First of all, I wanted to say that you guys are doing an awsome job with this site!  Thanks!

One question though - Every time I visit the site I need to logon again.  I always check the remember me box, but it doesn\'t (remember me).  What\'s up?

Which browser(s) are you using?  Also, what are your cookie setting (ie, allow all, denyball)?

Thanks for the wonderful feedback!

I\'m using IE 5.1.5 for Mac.  I have prefs set to \"never ask\" (ie, allow all) when it wants to download cookies

I just installed Mozilla on my win2k laptop, and don\'t have the same problem.  I\'ll install Mozilla on my SuSE 8.1 desktop to see if I get the problem there.

Mozilla 1.3.1 / Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3.1) Gecko/20030425

Was there ever a resolution for this issue?  I\'ve been noticing the same problem in that I always have to log back in if I close/reopen my browser.  I have used Mozilla, Firebird, and now Firefox (under Windows).  Cookies are enabled (I have no problems with other sites remembering me) yet this site continually refuses to remember my existance.  Anyone else?

I have been having the same experience (in the grand scheme of things, I wouldn\'t call it a problem, per se).

It seemed to be a dead issue for a while... I would recommend that you clear your cache in your browser(s), then log back into the site.  In the mean time, I\'ll do more research as to what could be causing this.

thanks for your patience.

Cache isn\'t going to be a problem... I just switched over to Firefox and had to create a brand new profile, so at this point I have no cookies, cache, or anything else from my previous setup, yet it still doesn\'t remember me.  Also I just noticed, even though I have not closed my browser today (I wandered off to other sites then came back) I still had to log back in again when I got back here.

I have to add an \"it works for me\" quote to this, sorry.

Even opera on my Zaurus remembers my login details, sometimes this can be weeks apart as well.

I have noticed a lot of \"sorry forgot to login, the above guest is me\" type posts, but just presumed they had not checked the \"remember me\" button.

I just downloaded and installed firefox on my win2k laptop at work.... I\'ll see if I have the same troubles with it.

btw.. firefox is really freaking fast... I\'m impressed!  too bad they don\'t have an arm port so it can be compiled for the x11 rom

well, I haven\'t found a problem with firefox yet... (but I did find a kickass browser!)....

but there was a bug found with the remember me funtion in the forum... it was actually a typo in the code.  That\'s fixed now, so let\'s see if there are less issues with users not being remembered by the forums.

that\'s odd... especially with the last bug fix.  please check your browser to make sure you don\'t have any options set to clear your cookies upon exit.

thanks

Remaining logged on is fine for me, but I\'m still having issues with the \"Quote Selected\" button. I\'m using FireFox (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.8). Does anyone else have this problem (or even better a solution as I\'m getting bored of typing

I always use the same computer (my Zaurus sl5500 Sharp ROM 2.38), the same browser (Opera 7.30), have my browser set to accept cookies, and always check the box "Remember me on this computer".

However, I still almost always (i.e., 95% of the time) have to log on fresh every time.  OESF almost never remembers me and I haven't been able to figure out why.

The only thing I can think of is maybe you check our IP addresses?   My ISP assigns the IP address based on which computer I reach there, and they have many, many addresses....for sure over a dozen.

I am always amazed that other sites recognize me and OESF doesn't.

There isn't any pattern that I can detect that makes a difference which bookmark I use to get there...which is why I wonderr if you're first looking at the IP addresses we're logging on from, instead of just looking at our cookie files.

Likewise.  I log on from work, my house and my parents' house.  Between those, I have windows, mac, linux and PDA.  No issues here.

Hmmm.   So how do I figure out why oesf almost never remembers me when I allow cookies and always check  the 'remember me' box?   Do I take the question to another subforum?

I do have cookies that work fine elsewhere, so there's something odd going on here.

Thanks,
sdjf

I've been doing more testing and tweaking, and noticed that the following link results in no check box asking if I want to be remembered:

https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php)?

Checking the box on screens where I find the box still does not result in my being remembered, but wanted to point the above out.

Also, maybe my trouble is partly due to having images turned off, which should not be required to get cookies to work?

I finally figured out that, at least for my particular browsers (lynx, links, and Opera 7.30), the only way that oesf will remember me is if I do not log out when I leave.   Otherwise, the cookies are set for me to have to enter login name and password.
