I know there\'s a few \"consumers\" who would disagree, but Sharp is apparently sticking to their guns on this one.

Why would they want to cut off the consumer market? I don\'t understand.
Not advertising it is one thing. Saying that it is \"not for the consumer\" seems like something entirely different.

Sell 10,000 units to SC Johnson Wax and deal with one corporate IT drone, or sell 10,000 units retail and deal with 10,000 members of the US consumer bell curve. I think it\'s basically a cynical ploy to take consumers\' money (via PCC and Amazon) and justify lackluster (or no) support when consumers call with problems.
That said, I\'ll probably still buy one sooner or later, \'cause I\'ve seen that ZUG can more than make up what Sharp lacks in support!

Ahh. I can deal with no support. Hardware this good I probably couldn\'t whip up on my own with less than about 10 million-100 milion dollars. If they build the hardware, I think we can build our own support-base.
Good deal. Thanks for the explanation.

I was very disappointed not because it won\'t be sold through consumer channels but because Sharp doesn\'t even want to promote it through the usual press channels.
We\'ve published detailed and largely positive reviews of every model they\'ve made, but they told us that they are positioning the unit differently from prior models and as a result won\'t even be sending us a unit for review! As an ex-IT head, I know I used to read web sites and consumer mags to get a feel for technology I might be interested in testing implementing. Making it harder for folks to find reviews and analyses of the product is not going to help it flourish
