Title: C700 and pdaX
Post by: netshade on April 09, 2004, 10:06:44 pm
What kind of performance level can I expect to see with cacko/pdaX and the C700 ; it was my understanding that the C700 had some speed issues, and before I buy one I\'d like to know whether or not I can install pdaX and have it usable...

Thanks,

.ns.

I think newer ROMs incl. pdaXrom have a fix in the kernel, if I\'m wrong correct me - anyone?

I hope there is no real major issues, as I\'ve recommended a second user C700 to a friend.

I don\'t have any experience with a PXA255 model, but the newer kernels just about double the speed of the C700, so I don\'t think the CPU is much of an issue.

The bug in the cache management of the C700 Intel PXA 250 processor is still there.
As it doesn\'t occur often, they decide to let the cache enable. A PXA 255 is no more than a PXA250 but without the bug and with a double speed bus (200 instead of 100mhz).

The SL-C750, 760, 860 and SL-6000 use the PXA 255.
The SL-C700 and the SL-5600 use the PXA 250.

I used the latest pdaXrom on my C700.. No problem with the touchscreen anymore and it runs reasonably well.  I use a swap partition on my MD on occasion though.
