Title: 5600 Running very slow
Post by: Nightruler on April 10, 2004, 02:01:12 pm
I installed the special kernel 1.3 and everything was going good.  Then I downloaded the overclock program and bumped my speed up to 471 to see how well it would help for movies.  It didn\'t seam to help much so I clocked it back down to what it was.  Now my Zaurus seams to be running very slow, this is noticed is games the most, things like pacman or brickout will slow down every 5-10 seconds, then speed back up again, sow down, speed out, etc...

Also I installed the Opie Pims and the calander and the addressbook are set to \'fast load\'.  I can tell becuase the programs are running, but when I hold down on them to bring into the menu for the fast load, there is no option to enable/disable fast loading of these apps.

I\'m using the latest beta TKC rom for the Zaurus

i heard it\'s the irda applet that slows down the tkc rom for the 5600..  mine would occasionally run slow until i got rid of the applet..  i haven\'t noticed it running slow anymore, but it\'s only been a week or so since i did that

aww, is that what it was?  The irda applet?  Dang I went back to the sharp rom because thekompany rom did that slow down stuff to me.

Not trying to change the subject, just a small clarification about that irda applet.  Does it even work on the 5600?  Back when I had it it only showed an option to \'enable irda\' no matter if it was already enabled or not.  My friends (5500) allows you to enable or disable irda from the applet.

Mine seems to be running slower too (1.3 vs 1.2).  I recently installed ssh and thought  it was related to SSH?  Is IRDA a separate app - I didn\'t install one?

I think the IrDA applet is in the tkcROM, but you can get rid of it by deleting its links under /home/QtPalmtop/plugins/applets and restarting Qtopia and no it doesn\'t work on the 5600 because Sharp changed the IrDA device slightly. (It\'s only a small tweak that is required to the source though)
