Title: Any recomendations for FM transmitter?
Post by: braindrop on April 12, 2004, 04:27:15 pm
I can\'t believe I didn\'t think of this sooner. To play from my Z to my car and home stereo. groovy.
I am looking at this one on ebay.  Any words from experience?

braindrop -

I\'ve tried a bunch of transmitters with my Rio SP250 player (aka iRiver IMP250) and, for the car, the only one worth the price or trouble is the Sound Feeder. I have the SF-100. It covers the entire FM band fully tunable. One switch for 3 band segments & tuning dial to tune within each segment.

Some of the others had only two or four fixed switchable frequencies which does NOT cut it here in Miami where the FM bands are over crowded.

The SF-100 gives good reception & clarity for me in a Ranger pickup.

For home, I use a Ramsey FM100B. It isn\'t cheap and comes as a kit. But the cheaper ones are crap at very best and, in its price range, it is the best bang for the buck (IMHO). I have mine hooked to a desktop serving as my Juke Box with about 30Gb of WMAs. It easily covers my house & yard and isn\'t going to cause my neighbors to be calling the FCC on me.

You should know that NO stereo FM radio is going to give you full CD quality, however. The way FM stereo works, the audio must cut off by about 15kHz in order to not muck with the 19kHz \"pilot\" signal that is crucial to the FM signal multiplex. But MY ears can\'t tell the difference.

Ramsey has a great forum to lurk or ask questions in.

If you need more info, holler back.

I also have the sound feeder transmitter.  It works well except that the volume is very low.  I have to remember to turn the stereo volume down before switching back to commercial stations.  Sound quality is good.  Same as Miami_Bob, I can\'t hear the difference.

I bought a cheapo one from brando, they have a variety, I picked a middle/upper price one:

works very well for me, but only four frequencies so check the list to make sure your locality is clear!
