Title: Multiboot Pdaxii13 Using Omegamoon Kexec Multiboot Kernel?
Post by: Jon_J on January 07, 2014, 12:07:06 pm
I followed instructions at http://www.omegamoon.com/blog/static.php?page=ZaurusUbuntu (http://www.omegamoon.com/blog/static.php?page=ZaurusUbuntu)
I have the multiboot kexec kernel installed and am able to boot Angstrom and zubuntu from the boot menu with zubuntu on SD and Angstrom on my microdrive. SL-C3100
Basic instructions for booting from an SD card are:
1. Simply extract the filesystem on a CF or SD memory card. (in this case "zubuntu-desktop-rc1.tar.gz")
2. Rename the the kernel image to zImage and copy it into the /boot directory.
3. Create a file named kernel-cmdline containing the kernel startup command line and optionally add a file named image.nfo containing a description of the distro.

I have all the necessary files, and I can change the image.nfo to contain a discription for pdaxii13.

My question is,  "Pdaxii13 build 4.5.9-beta" contains 5 files:
hdimage-full.tgz
initrd.bin
updater.sh
updater-tools.bin
zImage-2.4.20.bin

I can use "zImage-2.4.20.bin" for the filesystem, and rename "zImage-2.4.20.bin" to just "zImage" as mentioned above.
I can probably ignore the 2 updater files, but
what do I do with the "initrd.bin" file?

I'll try using just the "hdimage-full.tgz" and' zImage-2.4.20.bin" and hope this boots like zubuntu does on my SD card.

I already have pdaXii13v2-upgrade installed on my other Zaurus, SL-C3200, so I don't want to install it the regular way on "this" Zaurus SL-C3100

Thank you for anyone who reads this,
Jon

Hi Jon,

Can't you try booting up Z with initrd.bin and see what happens....if it works, great....

If it doesn't work, then try without it.....

Other idea is to contact Omegamoon guy and get clarification.....

Please report back what happens....interested to hear how this goes....

I tried the above. It did not work. This filesystem is meant to be installed onto NAND + HDD3
I was holding my breath when I booted into Cacko after this because there were messages referring to NAND partitions when I tried to boot pdaxii13 off my SD card.

I'll try the initrd.bin later as you mentioned.

I have to go do some other things now, thank you for your quick reply. I'll try researching this later.
Maybe meanie has a filesystem already for pdaxii13 that can run off an SD card.

Meanie was working on pdaXng with 3 different flavors. One of which would run off an SD card, but it looks like this project has stalled.

In this post, InSearchOf  mentions that the kernel is external to the rootfs, so booting off an SD card like I was trying above will not work.

There must be a way to make this work, but this seems to be above my knowledge of booting linux and kernels and filesystems..

Wish I could be of more help, but I have not had my Zaurus for a few years now....although been toying with idea of getting another one....

Meanwhile, could you try contacting the Omegamoon guy and ask his advice? I would guess that he'd be glad to advise....

Worth a try and could save you some time fiddling around....

Did you ever get things working?.....

Just curious....
