I just received my SL-6000L at the beginning of the week and, so far, have been unable to successfully use the built-in WiFi. My existing home WiFi set-up is an ad-hoc network (two Oronico cards) using some older Linux WiFi drivers. For test purposes I have apache running on those two machines. And I have added host routes for my Zaurus.
When I ping the Zaurus from either of the other nodes I can see the ICMP packets going out (the correct interface) but I don\'t see any response from the Zaurus.
When I point Opera (on the Zaurus) at either of the other nodes using the IP address I see the request in the Apache log, but the page never seems to make it back to the Zaurus.
Does anyone have any ideas (other than buying a \"real\" access point...) ?

That sounds like an apache problem, rather than a 6000L WIFI problem. Can you connect to apache ok from the other wireless machine with no probs? Are the machines all on teh same subnet?
-
I can connect to Apache from either of the other nodes; just not from the Zaurus. All the machines are on the same subnet.
A brief inspection with ethereal shows apache responding to the Zaurus. But the TCP stream cuts off before the page is completed.

Maybe you have a defective unit?

It checked out just fine at our local Borders (t-mobile) hotspot. The solution was to buy an access point.
I\'m posting this from my Zaurus....

I just got SL6000 today and at first it gave the same problems , you mentioned.
Hope this helps
1. Go to the network tab and click on \"Add\"
2. Give the ESSID name as the same name you have given in the desktop pc.
3. Make sure you have ad-hoc selected in network type
4. First of all, to be sure, make wep disabled in zaurus as well as desktop pc. (If it works, then you can add wep key)
5. Give the TCP/IP address in the TCP/IP column and make sure you fill the network mask and gateway.
Here is one more step which did the trick
Open the terminal and type
cat /etc/resolv.conf
The ip address of gateway pc must be present in this file. If it is not, (which was in my case), open vi editor and
add the ip address of gateway pc.
Now, you should be able to connect well to the pc
