I recently brought a new lease of life to my old SHARP Zaurus SL-C3000 Linux PDA by installing Arch Linux on it.
In this short video I demonstrate some of the fun things you can do all from the Linux console like play DOOM, music via moc, GameBoy Advance games via VisualboyAdvance and create electronic music with Milkytracker.
Near the end of the vid I plug a USB mouse in. The Zaurus does have a touchscreen but for various reasons it was just easier and better that I use a mouse to control Milkytracker instead.

Excellent vid, Dan!
Didn't know we had a lil' Spielberg in the group.....
Can't wait for Part II....
Will let some others know about it....
Thanks.

I'm glad you liked it Mark!
I did think about adding some graphics or titles to it but I preferred to maintain its rough and ready, one-take DIY quality rather than pretend I wanted to be professional about it - doing multiple takes until every word is perfect and so on. I think it's more honest this way - FOSSpunk!
I was hoping to show off Quake running on the Z in this video but I've still got video issues preventing it from running. I'll do another video if/when I get Quake working, which I'll start a separate thread for soon.

That is sweet!
I am trying to find some time to test Arch out on my SL-3100. Been an ArchLinuxARM user for years with other hardware so things will feel right at home I'm sure.

Great to have you here, Walt......
Meanwhile, havin' fun on my 3200......

Potential new user alert!
Glad you liked it Walt!
My Z has never been happier so I'd def. recommend you give it a shot.

It's worth noting that the Gameboy Advance is a 32bit ARM7 machine that was only released 3 years before the Zaurus C3K so its pretty impressive that it can emulate it to a playable degree.
Quake is the game I think will get the most out of the Z but I'm most keen to get AdvanceMAME compiled, once I've got distcc to work as it won't compile without assistance.

Yes, very cool.......
Will be interesting to see how it goes.....

Thank you for sharing the beautiful video danboid, Arch Linux on the Z is indeed impressive.
I will install onto my Z soon. Still playing with a few other distros at the moment, specifically weeXpc.
Would love to see how Quake runs on ArchLinux!

Thanks zaurusrex!
I've never tried weexpc. What distro is it based on? Do you know if it will run on the C3000? It seems it 'died' a few years ago now so it won't be as up-to-date as Arch is and I doubt it will have anywhere near as many packages available as Arch but I've so far not had any luck getting either of my CF wifi cards working properly under Arch so I'd consider dual booting with something else for when I want to use SSH or other network stuff, at least until I get it sorted under Arch. I tried pdaXii13 again recently. My old wifi card works under that but the OS is unstable and slow as hell plus suspend doesn't work outside of X like it does under Arch.
Archimark says his CF wifi card works well under Arch so it all depends on what chipset you have.
EDIT
I've just had a quick look at the weexpc manual and it sounds like it supported the C1000, C3100 and C3200 at some point in time but never the C3000. Oh well!

ChrisLAS has favourited my tweet to him about this vid so with any luck it'll appear on the (next) Linux Action Show - the most popular weekly Linux webcast.
