Title: A wooden Psion series 3A...
Post by: Varti on January 02, 2018, 12:58:52 pm
... or rather, a Psion PDA with a cool wood-like casing. Looks nifty, I never heard about it until now:

Having seen and touched one of those “in the flesh” so to speak I have to say it looks way better in pictures.  It looks and feels like that fake plastic wood that Lincoln put in the Continentals in the 1970s.  Yuck!

Someone commented on #planetgemini that it looks like a cigar box... I must say I agree

Definitely cigar box-esque.  I had almost forgotten about that variant.  My question is did the casing material on that model get all gummy over the years like my poor Series 3c did?

No, it doesn’t. It had a non-rubberized super glossy coating.

Drat, now I want one...similarities to certain unfortunate car interior choices notwithstanding.  I did a lot of my earliest programming in OPL on my Series 3a, because it was always with me.  Nothing against Turbo Pascal for DOS which I also enjoyed, but, at the time, I couldn't bring that with me on the go.

Thank you for the info, too!
