Title: Anyone else find the Gemini leather case problematic?
Post by: Charlie Stross on March 05, 2018, 12:34:51 pm
See title.

My Gemini and accessories showed up this morning, and my first impressions are mostly good (albeit with reservations about the software quality — it feels very Version 1.0-ish).

However, the leather case is a bit of a disappointment: it's so tight that the Gemini barely fits in it, and pulling it out in a hurry is pretty much impossible: it's a two-handed job.

Have I just landed a too-tight outlier, or is this a common problem?

I am not sure, but leather items are often too tight in the beginning when you start using them. They are made that way because tge leather will stretch a bit after some time. So hopefully it will fit better soon. Just my 2 cents

Supple leather adapts to shape and form; in time, its fit will improve.

Wouldn't one rather find it snug now over loose (and risk the device coming out of the leather carrier)?

In my town nearby, there is a master cobbler and leather craftsman who can / will make a rugged, wallet-styled leather case for me / my Gemini for less $ than the campaign's perk.

I suggest you find another object of a similar size as the Gemini and keep it in the case for a few days to stretch the leather.

Mine was too tight too.
I am thinking of going to a shoe repair place and having them spray it with leather stretch or whatever they use.
Simply having the Gemini in the case to stretch it is not enough, it's a real two-handed operation getting it in and out.

I don't think most of us have even -seen- a Gemini leather case.  Can you post up some pictures of yours?

A trick I have seen work with some cases that are too tight:  Turn the case inside-out then back 2-3 times.

I'm not sure if that is even possible with a Gemini pouch, though, as I have never seen one.

can someone kindly put a picture / link to the gemini pda case. I tried to search online but did not find one. I don't know wether i should but the case or not.

My Gemini cover has stretched a little, it still requires two hands but not so much 'effort' as initially.
