Title: Remote control headphones?
Post by: Prefect47 on April 20, 2004, 01:58:08 pm
I read that Sharp apparently sells remote control headphones that can control their own music player. This would be an absolute dream gadget for me since it would enable me to keep my Z safely in a backpack (sp?) when I\'m out on a long trip on my bike. Alternatively it would simply mean I could finally retire my aging Pontis SP600 mp3 player...

So, the question is: can you buy said remote outside of Japan, alternatively through any store there?

Conics.net sells it: http://conics.net/shp/pda/zaurus-sl-c700/sl-acc.html (http://conics.net/shp/pda/zaurus-sl-c700/sl-acc.html) - $38.50
Dynamism also sells it: http://www.dynamism.com/zaurus/pricing.shtml (http://www.dynamism.com/zaurus/pricing.shtml) - $49

I\'ve got a Sharp MD player with a remote control set of headphones (though I don\'t know whether they have extra prongs - they may well have). In any case does anyone know whether this kind of thing would work with opie? I.e. how is this functionality implemented?

They are really nice, but are currently omly supported by the sharp-player...

OK, bought the one off ebay (10 days from order to delivery from Japan) and it works great! But there\'s always something...

I\'m a little (very little) annoyed by the design decision that \"stop\" is the most important function on this thing - it\'s the biggest and easiest button to press, whereas th other \"buttons\" are jog wheels (like the one on the Z itself). So however unlikely, has anyone managed to decode the signals and/or rewire them (in software) to make the middle button act like it should, i.e. play/pause?

Not holding my breath here, but it\'s worth a shot...

lardman,

so, any similiarity of your remote with this one?

No, mine does have a couple of extra prongs - so it won\'t fit in a standard 3.5mm plug.

It would be interesting to get this working on OZ though. First I\'ll have to find a pair of headphones.

No, I tried my C860\'s audio remote on a 5500, it does not work.
