Title: Gemini reboots during phone call
Post by: Lyall Pearce on April 09, 2018, 03:42:39 am
Out-of-the-Box Gemini, twice now, been in the middle of a conversation and the phone goes black and shows the android boot screen about 30 seconds later.

Oops, there it goes again, third time in as many days, twice in 15 minutes, whilst I was typing this message I was on a phone call and the phone goes black, rebooting about 30 seconds later.

This is immediately after the previous reboot, I received a call from the person who was disconnected and we resumed our conversation.

The phone App does not record the fact that either of the two calls have been made (no buffers flushed I guess).

The first phone call was under 10 minutes, with the second less than 3 minutes before reboot.

I tend to keep phone calls short, as in a few minutes. Not a big fan of long phone calls.

Battery at 75% (after both reboots) with performance and power saving in 'Normal'.
I am in Australia, using 4G VoLTE, with Telstra as my carrier.

Suggestions?

I never had the gemini reboot, and I was never talking and using data at the same time so I cant be sure it is the same probelm. VoLTE is meant to make the call sound better, but that is about it. As I said before, I disabled it and have had absolutely no problems since. I am also in Oz, using Vodafone. According to the frequency checker, Vodafone is the only carrier here that has all bands supported by the gemini. Dont know if this would have an effect on anything. I have only rebooted my phone once in the month I have had it and that was to change an sd card. I would still try to turn off VoLTE and see what happens. Are you using lots of power? I just checked - phone off the power at 6am it is now 7pm 79% left.I used it as normal - web, email, sms and phone calls - no games though. Maybe excess power draw?

The same issue was reported by another user on the FB Gemini page:

https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=34797 (https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=34797)
"when making calls on EE VoLTE in UK the Gemini has rebooted in the middle of the call, happened 4 times (Richard Grimwood on the Gemini Planet FB page)"

I have checked his post on Facebook, but he didn't add any newer comment on his post, I don't know if he has solved this issue in the meanwhile. If you don't have an account there I might ask him if he has found any fix for this.

I should note that I am a very light user. The second reboot in 5 minutes would seem to preclude any apps as none where started after the reboot except the phone (and DAVDroid I assume).

Old thread, but FWIW I had a reboot about ten minutes into a Google Hangouts call today. I’ll try to reproduce it later in the week.

I’m using mine just with a data SIM, so I can’t test voice calling. I need to activate another voice line.
