When I first got the Gemini, both the silver button and the Fn+Space shortcut, activated the Assistant. Somewhere along the line, they both stopped working. I can still call up the Assistant through Gemini Voice Assistant, just not the button or the keyboard shortcut. Quite willing to believe that I have misconfigured something, but what?

Yes, I have the exact same problem, the silver button activated the Google assistant when i un-packed the device this morning and within 5 minutes of using it, it stopped working.
now if I press the silver button when the screen is closed it does absolutely nothing, no fancy noise that it originally made and no google assistant response.
I checked the volume level is ok.
it was doing updates about the same time it stopped working, could an update have stopped it working ?
any help is appreciated.

It was quite annoying. I have been using the Gemini for 3 months, and the button was very useful. You now need a trusted voice, which means you need a google login (which I don't want). For those who do have a google account and don't mind their voice being stored and characterised, go to the voice settings and enable trusted voice. For those who don't have or want a google account, bad luck.....
