Title: ARM specific kernel optimisations
Post by: Wood on April 23, 2004, 07:02:30 am
Hi,

On the following site I read about several ARM specific kernel optimisations:

http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2....hangeLog-2.5.68 (http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.5/ChangeLog-2.5.68)

Some comment refers to the XScale PXA255 (which is in the 760 and 860). For example:

] [ARM PATCH] 1363/1: memcpy with preload support and other
] optimisations
]
] Patch from Nicolas Pitre
]
] This improves on what I did with patch #1362/1 by adding preloads
] for architectures that support it.  On an XScale PXA255 this provides
] a 20% performance gain.

I believe the Zaurus ROMs are currently using the 2.4.18 kernel.
Is it possible to include some of those patches in for example the pdaX ROM? A 20% performance increase is a lot .

The OpenZaurus team finally attracted some people working on 2.6.x kernels for the Zaurus models. I recommend (again) joining forces - at least in doing kernel work. It\'s ridicolous to have several groups doing duplicate work. Join openzaurus-devel@handhelds.org and participate.
