I have got some up to date packages on debain right now though a couple of different methods and thought other people would be interested in them, plus I am also interested in some more
Guix package manager "general packages" I used the Script (https://www.gnu.org/software/guix/manual/en/html_node/Binary-Installation.html) chmod +x then run it --- I have got Emacs arai2 qutebrowser "which has some bugs but still nice to have" etc... installed through this
Cargo -- "rust packages" run this command to install "curl -sSf https://static.rust-lang.org/rustup.sh (https://static.rust-lang.org/rustup.sh) | sh" -- I have got ripgrep and fd installed throgh this
Git from source -- dwm, emacs-git
Other Methods that i have looked at but haven't got around to trying/using
BedRock Linux (https://bedrocklinux.org/) To make a hybrid of debian and other linux distros like void linux
Changing the Debian version --- Broke on me when I tried:(
If you handle this this problem do you do it the same as me or some other method?
ps .. I am using doom emacs which is working much better because it is a keyboard focused environment witch fits perfectly with the Gemini

We are probably going to migrate to Debian Buster sooner or later, but in the meanwhile, I tried Bedrock Linux approach and can confirm it works on Gemini, same way as in this Reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/bedrocklinux/comments/aaybvz/bedrock_linux_can_hijack_aarch64/).
init selection menu would not display as we lack framebuffer console, so it makes sense to set timeout to 0 in [init] section of /bedrock/etc/bedrock.conf.
