Hello,
since the OTA-Update was released, I get that "search for new firmware"-notification nearly every day. At first I didn't dare to touch it, of fear it would just start downloading the update and start it, which I don't want (I'm waiting for the rooted version anyway). But since I tried and it didn't cause any harm, I click on the notification each time it appears, and close the firmware update menu again.
But it keeps coming, which I find really annoying. I don't want OTA-updates, so how do I tell the device once and for all to not notify me? And why does the notification appear every freaking day?
I would reall appreciate any hints on this.
And reading the first experiences with 8.1 people tell of in other threads, I don't feel overly urged to update anyway, even if the rooted version finally will be available.
Kind regards

Yeah, I'd like to know this, too...
(I've set it to check monthly, but that seems to have no effect, as it gives me the notification afresh every day anyway!)
I have rooted Android, so it wouldn't be able to apply the OTA update even if it did download it...

It can probably be disabled by going into the App settings of Google Play or the Updater App, but I can not confirm since I have updated already.

If you have rooted Android you can install Titanium Backup and freeze the process Wireless update.
Worked for me...

Well,
asking Planet Computer support was quite disappointing.
First they told me that the daily notification is because "the update is so important"
Second they "guess" that there "might be" a way to switch off the notification, but they don't know for sure. Hello? If not you, who the heck does know?
I finally figured out a way to block this out on my own: I have "Firewall without root" installed, and I just deprive the updater of any right to access the network, wireless or mobile. Peace and silence since then.
Man, I hate those half-baked and poorly engineered crap softwares.

Given that Planet Computers are now recommending sticking with Android 7, or even downgrading to it, to avoid some of the reported battery problems, you'd think that they'd be less interested in forcing you to upgrade to Android 8!
But no, I still get the notifications a couple of times every day…
And you can't just dismiss them — you have to go into the upgrader, wait for it to dial home and show the upgrade, and then hit Back! It's got to be a real drag.
(Especially because, on my rooted machine, the automatic update wouldn't actually work anyway…)
Is there no way to silence it, without installing extra software? I've got auto-update turned off in the Play Store app, and the detection interval in Firmware Update set to One Month, but still it persists, like the endless repetition of “Are we nearly there yet??”…

That's very weird. I have an unrooted Nougat and after the first update notification, I never got another one, and I'm still on Nougat.
I'm in the US, on TMobile, so maybe that plays into it.
