The camera works using camera-app.
sudo apt install camera app

Afaik this is the only way of using the camera. Hoping to be wrong, but there is no video device that could be used by standard Linux applications.

Camera_app already installed with firmware image.
If someone  has  the latest firmware, please , post results here.
Thank you
follow the error ( print screen )
translating from my language ( portuguese )

It is not possible to access the camera
The app camera does not have permission to access camera hardware or another error occurred.
If  conceding   permission does not solve the problem, restart the phone.
If I click on edit permissions , it opens google chrome.
If I click cancel  a blank screen appears.. ( Camera opened with blank screen ).

Thank you all.

Installed android 7 and debian ( Gemini Partition Tool - Android 7.1/Linux ) from planet. This Debian version is different from the debian version I had in the past  ( Gemini Partition Tool - Android 8.1/Linux  ) . Same problems as mentioned .
I've noticed that in both debian versions,  I have to run /system/bin/cameraserver . If no cameraserver is running the camera-app only flashes as mentioned before. But the problem mentioned before ( see the photo attached ) persists.

Thank you for the information.
Mine doesn't work even with the latest android 7 and debian ( Gemini Partition Tool - Android 7.1/Linux ). Mine has boot 1 for rooted android and boot 2 for  debian . Maybe the problem is that I have a rooted android. I think maybe debian have to access some partition from android . But I am not sure about this. Who is the developer of camera-app ? Maybe he can help to solve this problem. Thank you.

My gemini is x27. What is yours ? Maybe the camera works only on old gemini ( x25 )  or you are using another debian image.  I am using this debian image :

https://support.planetcom.co.uk/download/Li...are7/debian.zip (https://support.planetcom.co.uk/download/LinuxFirmware7/debian.zip)

And this android image :

https://support.planetcom.co.uk/download/Li...ni_x27_base.zip (https://support.planetcom.co.uk/download/LinuxFirmware7/gemini_x27_base.zip)

Thank you.

Adam answered me :

I've installed A7+TP2. Adam told me to install gemian-dektop-minimal and said he only has the internal camera and if I have the external one that could cause problems. I removed the external camera and it worked . So the problem is the external camera. I will try to disable it in linux . But I don't know how. Any ideas ?
Thank you Adam.
Thank you all.

If it helps any, the "edit permissions" is trying to open settings:///system/security-privacy in chromium.. however that doesnt do anything useful for me.. wonder what its supposed to do..

I've been trying to get my camera working.  Installing the camera-app was not sufficient. I had to further install qml-module-qt-labs-settings, which is fine but should probably be included in the camera-app dependencies.

I also had to install gnome-shell-extension-mediaplayer which brought in 170 other packages (gnome related).  Very annoying as I like keeping my system as lean as possible. More worryingly, it installed NetworkManager which now seems to be fighting with connman for the WiFi and I keep losing the connection.  Sorting this out is in progress.

However, to cut a long story short, the camera app still doesn't work although at least now it starts. It complains about permissions. This thread implies that I need to reflash my Android. Is this true? I have only ever booted into Android once and don't want to really muck about with it as I don't use it at all...

Thanks.

Mine when I've installed a fresh A7+ debianTP2 didn't work unless as mentioned above ( removed the external camera and installed gemian-minimal-desktop ).
But I have to mention that when I've only booted in debian without booting in android , I had   this problem about permissions ( as mentioned before , please see my previous  attached  photos ).
After booting in android and later in debian the camera worked. Maybe someone here that has only debian can confirm if android is really necessary. As mentioned by Mibry  ( He had the same problem and  reflashed his  gemini with the 7.1 android rom and the latest debian and the camera app worked. ).

Okay, so I guess I really should boot up in Android again (just the once). As I've removed all the camera app related packages, I'll to re-install them first...

There was a null pointer exception with the external camera, also the external camera has a different orientation I've just pushed up a new system.img, camera-app and cameraplugin, once you've pulled them down and rebooted you should be able to get the camera working to a better degree. I still find that I occasionally get that permissions dialog but generally after a fresh reboot it goes away. I also never finished working out the video side of things, so that will still break things, generally after you've tried that you'll need to reboot too.

Works great.
Thank you so much !
