Title: need help getting my Z to charge the freakin\' battery
Post by: abegaza on April 24, 2004, 08:47:19 am
I am am back with OZ (3.3.5) after trying every other rom, the only problem is that the battery will not charge.  when i plug in the power the batt. applet says i have 100% charge, as soon i unplug the power, the batt applet goes down to 1% within 30 seconds.  also the battery LED never stays on for more than 1 min.  i have tried a recompiled kernel with th 3.2 batt. patch, but it does not seem to work either.  the battery charged with the sharp rom,  any help would be great.

So, do I understand correctly that your Zaurus isn\'t charged right now? How long can you run it without AC-power?
The battery applet in OZ 3.3.5 was buggy when I used it, so thought maybe your battery is just fully charged and that\'s why the LED doesn\'t stay on...
Sorry, if I\'m mistaken,
Kathrin

Out of curiousity, why not reflash a Sharp ROM and try again, at least you\'d know if it is OZ at fault or if something has died since you last used a Sharp ROM.

Sounds like a dying battery, but mercifully it\'s replaceable.

the battery does hold a charge with the sharp rom, and the applet says it is charging.  with OZ as soon as i plug in the power -regardless of whether the batt is full or empty- the applet says 100%.  with oz it never says \"charging\".  maybe the batt. is dying, but why would it work better with sharp than oz?  what controls the battery charging.

Not sure, but at least you don\'t have the worry of having a hardware failure, just software by the sound of it.

The Battery Applett ist Buggy in OZ 3.3.5:
http://www.openzaurus.org/official/3.3.5/c...ie/README.FIRST (http://www.openzaurus.org/official/3.3.5/collie/README.FIRST)
The Batterypatch is Missing.
 Possible Solutions:
1) Use 3.2 and Update Opie to 1.0.3 (Thats what I am doing)
Or:
2) Use 3.3.6-pre1, but then you have to use a lot of Apps with the compat-libs, because of GCC 3 in OZ 3.3.6-pre1. You can find 3.3.6-pre1 under experimental at the OZ Site.
Cheers,
Sam

Hi,
I found this way was quite easy:
http://www.pclinuxonline.com/modules.php?n...rticle&sid=7594 (http://www.pclinuxonline.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=7594)
The Howto describes the wy to update to opie 1.0 but you can just use the packages from the 1.0.3 feed instead:
http://opie.handhelds.org/feed/openzaurus/1.0.3/ (http://opie.handhelds.org/feed/openzaurus/1.0.3/)
Cheers,
Sam
