Title: File management queries
Post by: DCB on November 19, 2019, 03:43:49 am
File management, two queries:
1) Any idea why the Gemini recognises some thumb drives and not others? I have a Kingston Microduo that works, and a couple of Sandisk duos that don't. Is this anything to do with using the Sandisk ones in my work Mac as well as my own PC laptop? Can they cope with two different operating systems but not 3?
2) Suggestions for a good file management program, free or otherwise? At the moment I have File Manager and all I seem to be able to do is navigate to a folder, copy a file to the clipboard, then navigate to another folder and paste it. I have to use the menu to see any details other than the name and size, can't see any way to list in order other than name (would like to be able to list by most recently modified).
Thanks!

Using Android?
Maybe the Stick (card) is exfat formatted? The Gemini's Android cannot work with the exfat file system. If so reformat the drive with a supported file system or patch in exfat support (I think I have seen some howtos for that).

Regarding the file manager. Try out Ghost commander (available from fdroid, maybe also from app store). It is a dual pane file manager (like norton commander in the early days). Anyways, this will not solve the stick issue.

Might be exfat formatting, but I have seen some program/utility that should be able to read/work with exfat formatted USB-drives as well (haven't tried it!). (Should be one of the first "hits" if you search for "exfat" in the Google Play store.) It should also be possible to "integrate" it with X-plore file manager, which is also a dual-pane file manager...

Woah - both Ghost Commander and X-plore are good file managers! I was using Total Commander, but these are as good or better. Thanks for the suggestions!
