Just to start off with, I want to say I love the Communicator and I expect that Planet will sort out the front screen stuff.
I was pretty concerned when I read, a few months ago, that there was a separate processor and OS powering the front screen - "so that the front screen would work with Linux as well as Android." I think that was the wrong call personally - they may not be able to fix the extreme slowness of the front screen, there may just not be enough processor cycles.
Anyway, I'd like the following features:
1. Full control over which lights are used and when. I don't want those two bright lights alternating when playing music! Just in general it's all much too bright and much too often. I'd like it to tell me in one colour for calls, one colour for whatsapp, and another colour for email notifications... and basically never outside of that.
2. I'd like to *understand* how to get back to the music/podcast control screen, which is a great feature but I can't work out how to navigate to.
3. I'd like to be able to do fingerprint adding with the screen closed, since it's extremely hard to do it right now.
4. I'd really really like the front screen functionality to be available without having to unlock the phone - interacting with notifications basically; I can do that without unlocking a normal android phone.

You can do from the Media Player thingie.
Swipe in from the right, select the Play button to open the media player.
Then swipe in from the left, there will be a volume adjuster. I think it only adjusts the media stream volume though.
It also seems to have a selector for which app to use, although I don't know how to add apps to the list. I'm using Tune-In Radio Pro and it doesn't show up there. Only Google Play Music shows up, which I don't use.

If you're using Bluetooth earphones, they may provide a way. (My latest set let you turn the volume down by clicking the left-hand one three times, and up with the right-hand one similarly.
