I can turn the volume all the way down with Fn+C and then get something loud as anything.
Other times, calls are really quiet.
I see sliders inside Android settings for:... but this doesn't always seem to be authoritive as to what will end up being final result. What category do notifications fall under?
The sliders also seem to have different steps to one another which seems.. weird..

Notifications go together with ring volume, which is really annoying, but that is google's fault - these were combined some time around android 3. On samsung and lg phones volume setting for rings and notifications are separate. You can find few applications that allow better control of volumes, but the one I've looked at thus far appear to be kind of suspicious permission wise.

I find, as with the Gem as well, that the lowest volume isn't low enough for headphones, so I use Precise Volume. It has a plethora of settings for everything and at times, difficult to figure, but it does make for steady volume control.
