Yes, installed fine. Can't wait to see how it will effect battery life

There doesn't seem to be a corresponding CoDi update.
Ninji or others, have you analysed yet if the wireless updater's security holes have been patched by moving to Planet's homebrew OTA updater?
-
Not sure yet, but it seems it's stopped recognizing my fingerprints. Anyone else having this problem?

Same here. I deleted both prints I had recorded. Recorded them once again. Worked for the first try - then stopped working... Re-started the Cosmo. Now seem to back in normal operation.

Yes, i've just done the same too & seems back to normal. Bit annoying though

Jeps', luckily the password opened Cosmo allright when fingers did not.

Uh oh, just tried to receive a phone call and there was complete silence, earpiece not working.
CoDi update available and flashing just now, hopefully will resolve the issue.

Phew, seems to be back & working again.

CoDi version is v1.1.1.13
1.1.1.13 has been available for a long time. It came out with V19. Looks like there is no new CoDi version actually out.

Initial experiences:
"Improved screen rotation function plus soft keyboard availability when Cosmo screen is used in portrait mode;" This is a nope for me. Rotation doesn't seem to work and the soft-keyboard popping up in portrait mode doesn't work either."
"Notes app: dictation feature can now be controlled via Cover Display;" This does not work at all for me. Dictation from the Cover Display microphone has horrible soud quality. Appears to have no interaction whatsoever with Notes app.
The Data app now has the name: change end date. This can be manually changed back to Data.
The lock screen when you open the clamshell now shows only the time whereas before, below the time it would show the date and next alarm. <<<< UPDATE: This is most definitely a bug. If you slide the screen up and down a few times without unlocking it, the date and next alarm time show up again. The problem happens each time you open the Cosmo.
More of the same:
Ledison still does nothing useful
One positive: The App Bar now shows 12 hour time. Before it only showed 24hr format even if your main time setting was 12hr.
-
I wish they had fixed the Dvorak keyboard shortcuts bug I reported, but they did not. I know I'm a minority, but still, the keyboard is an essential part of this device so it should work properly, minority or not.
-
Still not clear if they fixed the BlueFrag vuln.
-
After the upadate, GooglePay says that contactless payment is not availabe anymore.
-
Updated yesterday, went thru smoothly but no fingerprints anymore.
Started to update the CODI but now it got stuck at 90% for more than 20 minutes now. I was really looking forward to this update since before it felt too much early adopter to me.
-
Have they removed the update, or do they roll out updates gradually? It's not coming up for me. I'm on Cosmo-9.0-Planet-01182020-V19

They might have pulled it. There is a new update on Indiegogo stating there are problems with the update and that they are working on a hotfix patch. They are also recommending that people do not install the update at this time.
From Planet Computers' Indiegogo campaign:
Cosmo Android 9 V20 firmware update issues
We have seen report of problems with the Android 9 V20 firmware update. We are looking at the issues and will try to provide a hotfix as soon as possibe. Please hold off from downloading the V20 update at the momemnt.
Thank you for your patience.

Yes, it seems to work fine for me too. No noticeable improvements for me, though.

I updated mine. I like the newly added features such as auto virtual keyboard after screen rotation. But overall this update broke my phone. A lot of the functions that were good before no longer works. I have rebooted my phone many times. If it persists, I think I might have to factory reset my phone.
-
it works fine for me
When I looked through my battery usage yesterday it looked like it had shutdown for a while so I suspect something isn't quite right!
-
Quite weird really, how differently the Cosmo can behave. I've just begun my 5th day with the device, and haven't experienced a single random reboot nor freeze yet. It is working surprisingly well, before and after the V20 update. Could the reason lie somewhere what I did in the first place, e.g. did not mind about the warnings, but disabled most Google services (leaving the 'Play' things only). Then installed Nova Launcher and a few essential apps for my use. I'm very satisfied.

Same here with V20. I also have pretty much turned OFF all Google stuff except the Play store, and only things that I have observed so far with V20 was the fingerprint retraining thing and disabling the voice assistant.
Anyway, someone reported problem with NFC, haven't had a chance to try that yet. And I also hope that Planet fixes that Bluefrag for real, since they only brought Cosmo up to january patch level.
-
Since updating to V20 (before the warning got out) I'm now at my 3rd unexpected reboot, and just had it shut off without wanting to turn on for about half an hour. So I guess I can confirm that it broke stuff :)

V20 fix requires a FULL factory reset and manual update to v21..wtf

They say they are trying to create a more generic solution, but if you need urgent fix this one is for you...
I haven't personally ran into any of the mentioned issues expect the fingerprint thing, so I can wait for a while.
Although, having said that, is there any way to roll back to V19?
-
I haven't using fingerprints and my CoDi is totally disabled. I have no issues at all.
I think it was once rebootet by itself because CoDi were on again. (It's enabled as default after reboot)

After the upadate, GooglePay says that contactless payment is not availabe anymore.
You can apply manually the patch provided by Planet. Mine didn't work as explained in my other post here. ( https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=36212 (https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=36212) ).
Maybe because I"ve rooted my phone and even restoring the non rooted image , the error had persisted.
So I' ve downgraded to v19.
See below the email from Planet about the update ( For some users it worked ):
Dear Cosmo backers!
After we released the v20 firmware update for the Cosmo Communicator early
last week, some of you alerted us about problems with the device.
We quickly halted the update procedure and investigated the update.
We found a misconfiguration of the Google GMS module which lead Google to assume
that your device is not certified. As a result certain applications such as
Google Pay, Netflix and the fingerprint module didn't work as expected.
We worked around the clock to fix the issue together with the team in China
and we now have a firmware update that fixes the reported issues.
The fix requires a factory reset and for this reason we haven't created an over-the-air update at this stage, but a manual one. People who urgently need to restore their device can now do it, while we try to create on a more generic solution.
If you have updated your Cosmo to version v20 and are experiencing these issues, please make sure that you first backup your data and then follow this guide
to update the firmware manually:
http://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/FotaUpdate_v20 (http://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/FotaUpdate_v20)
We are very sorry about this issue and we are taking further steps to avoid
this kind of issue in the future. In particular we will soon release our own
firmware update software which will replace the current one and give
us greater flexibility to handle firmware updates.
Thank you for your patience.
Stay safe!

( The lk, scp, sspm and tee partitions appear to have alternate copies on lk2, scp2, sspm_2 and tee2.
I "ve also flashed these and also preloader and recovery ).
Linux was not affected . Also TWRP and rooted android weren' t affected. As reported here, in rooted android sim card does not work unless if you write the patched image in the boot partition and not in EMPTY_NORMAL_BOOT_3 - or EMPTY_NORMAL_BOOT_4 . Problem is that Play protect is not certified. As a result certain applications such as
Google Pay, Netflix and the fingerprint module didn't work as expected.
Check your Play Protect certification status
Open the Google Play Store app .
Tap Menu. Settings.
Under "Play Protect certification," you'll see if your device is Play Protect certified.
-
My google play store is certified under the "incorrect version" 03262020-V20 <20200325_1914>
Also i have none of the "errors" weird.
Not sure if i need to manually update it with loosing all data. Don't see any benefit of that. Suggestions, if it ain't broken don't fix it??

Considering that V21 is something they have stitched together over the last weekend as an emergency fix, I sure as heck am not going to touch that thing.
In retrorespect, I only wish that I had waited a bit longer before upgrading, but I thought that a few days would have been enough warning. When next real OTA upgrade rolls around, I'm sure going let others test it first

I'm (also) on V20 and Google Play says I'm (still) certified. My battery life, especiallly in flight mode (which I use each night) is certainly better and my battery usage graph works now. I'm pleased with V20 so far, but I've never used Netflix or Google Pay, so I can't comment on those.
My fingerprint reader did stop working, and just rescanning fingerprints didn't work. After rebooting, my rescanned prints worked again (not sure if JUST an extra reboot would have helped). My Cosmo used to occasionally reboot on earlier firmwares. On V20 it hasn't (yet), but during one phone call, it locked up. The call continued, but both screens were off and no buttons did anything, except holding down Esc to force a rebooot. My CoDi still hangs daily, as expected, since it's still on the same firmware as before. I don't know why I have such issues when others don't. When closing the device, I always turn the CoDi off with the side button, and I keep turning its brightness down, should any of that matter.

Today I had 3 unexpected reboots with V20. I have now disabled the CODI and it seems to be stable.
Also Planet Notes app does not recognize any touch inputs, anymore!
Oh! Notes app works again!

Good one... just checked and netflix is not in the store anymore and when i force open it in the play store there is a warnign that the device is not compatible.
BUT play store still tells me that it is certified...
Guess i will go with the procedure form planet and factory reset it any tips for a good backup / restore tool... ?

If you have a rooted device, maybe tar cvf file.tar.gz "files to backup " inside terminal emulator , termux or so. Some people reccomends titanium backup. I prefer reinstall everything to avoid conflicts.
It is simple : go to Play store and reinstall everything from library. Also contacts and photos have a backup as well whatsapp. ( you can do it before to install the update ) . Sorry about my English. I am from Brazil..

These are my results. I'm on V20:
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
According to the Play Store, my Cosmo is certified:
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
And Netflix seems available, should I want to:

I don't know why, but it seems I'm having a case of "if it ain't broken, don't fix it".

I just checked. My device is *not* certified and I cannot install Netflix.
So yeah, definitely differences in behavior. Considering we probably have device from same PCB (Fi/Swe-keyboard) then that's rather interesting...
Right now I don't even have my device rooted. I have unlocked bootloader, but that's all.

I was managing okay on v20 until yesterday. Now I can't hear anyone when i'm using it as a phone. I can on speakerphone however, so i'm guessing it's an issue with the main part talking to CoDi.
Being pressed for time, I thought i'd try the upgrade to v21, and managed to backup my data (I think!). It's a really annoying stupid thing to have to reset your phone, and if this is the process going forward then i'm not going to do it anymore.
I've now got a wiped phone, testing a few basic settings and guess what? I still can't hear anything on the phone! Speakerphone again works.
Which means i'll be wasting my afternoon trying to put v19 back on again, just make it work. Good job i'm stuck indoors.
I am beginning to get to the end of my tether. It's already upsetting my other half who keeps saying 'why don't you just get a proper phone?'. My answer has always been 'becasue no one makes anything worth having'
I won't be investing in the Astro. Looks nice enough, but i'm stopping here. For now at least. Sorry Planet. I want to support you, but if this is how things are going, I am really going to have to think about whether I can
Just an extra thought, if Planet were to make all the ROMs officially available for manual download & install, I might find this a lot easier to handle

Frankly, to me this sounds like a hardware problem. Maybe the earpiece is broken.
Maybe you can test with something rudimentary, like playing media via the handset.

I had it before during the v20 upgrade, my CoDi was behind (v12) and once that was updated to v13 it worked again.
I would also hope that turning it the other way up would allow me to hear as well. People can hear me on the other end they say.
It's okay, I shall take your advice and see what testing I can do, I know it is making sounds (it's effectively as out of the box just now), but i'll keep looking. If it is a hardware problem.. well..

That's interesting. I always thought that the CoDI controlled the, well, the AMOLED display and the LEDs, but the handset (mic+speaker) was handled by the native Android. Clearly there's *some* relevance.

As people have reported as hearing me, perhaps the mic's are still part of the main unit. But with the earpiece (as opposed to the speakers) not producing sound, there may be some relevance. I don't know if it's actually part of CoDi, or if it's just used as some sort of conduit, but it is interesting.
Just to note, I had a 'phone call' in the normal way, but the output set to speakerphone and that seemed to work. Albeit a touch noisy with background. I did have to turn it down a lot to stop myself becoming deaf mind. Workable in an emergency, but not permanently.
-
Managed to downgrade to v19, still on v13 CoDi, and still no sound.
Haven't been successful in playing other audio through the earpiece yet either. Always sounds like it's coming through the main speakers instead

Not trying to resurrect an old thread, but just to give an update.
Planet seem to be taking devices back for repair now. Both my Cosmo (earpiece issues as above) and Gemini (hinge!) are on their way back. Had to dust off my old Z5C to serve as my main device temporarily. Don't know what I plan to do once I get these back, become rather disappointed overall

Oh dear, looks like the same issue has happened again. Been working fine since I got the repaired Cosmo back, but yesterday noticed I couldn't hear calls except on speakerphone.
Not trying anything more than reboots at present, if I have to go as far as factory resets I can see me switching to another device permanently. As much as I like the keyboard (despite it's quirks), the rest of the device does let the side down a bit.
