There are 2 variations of this topic already out there, but this appears to be a SL-C860 (or maybe even SL-C7x0) specific issue, so I thought I should post it here (per the recent request post from the general moderator ).
I\'m trying to get my ogg files to play on my Zaurus SL-C860. There are 2 other forums talking about this, (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/index.php?n...der=asc&start=0 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3712&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0) & http://www.zaurususergroup.com/index.php?n...viewtopic&t=929 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=929) but this is Zaurus SL-C7x0 and SL-C8x0 specific and belongs in this forum.
Here\'s a recap:
There were 4 steps:
I suspect there is something wrong with the vorbis plugin (
http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=617 (http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=617) )... it says it works with the standard \"Media Player\"... and maybe that\'s the problem. I have a \"Music Player\" and \"Movie Player\", but no \"Media Player\". Maybe I should\'ve set this up with the \"Movie Player\" instead of the \"Music Player\"?
Can anyone give some insight into this?
Should I have associated the ogg files with the \"Movie Player\" instead of the \"Music Player\"? I suspect that on other zauruses the \"Music Player\" and \"Movie Player\" are a single \"Media Player\"... which may be my problem. The plugin may be set up to look for another player and won\'t work on C7x0 and C860 Zauruses. Anyone know anythign about this?[/url]

Media player is the appelation of mpegplayer binarie. You must have \"exec=mpegplayer\" in your XXX.desktop (or try in Konsole)
It is in last Cacko Rom 1.21 or here : http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley/1...er_qt_1.5.0.ipk (http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley/1390/mpegplayer_qt_1.5.0.ipk)
In my post \"Skin for MediaPlayer\", you have link to my Skin pack (with Readme inside).
So put \"MimeType=audio/x-wav;audio/ogg;audio/mpeg\" in MediaPlayer.desktop.. but you don\'t have MediaPlayer so, install it

I installed mplayer from http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=727 (http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=727) (I think that is what you\'re talking about). I open terminal, cd to the directory with my ogg music, and then I type...
ash-2.05$ mplayer qnres3.ogg
Using GNU internationalization
Original domain: messages
Original dirname: /usr/share/locale
Current domain: mplayer
Current dirname: /usr/local/share/locale
MPlayer 0.90pre10-2.95.2 (C) 2000-2002 Arpad Gereoffy (see DOCS)
Reading /home/zaurus/.mplayer/codecs.conf: can\'t open \'/home/zaurus/.mplayer/codecs.conf\': No such file or directory
Reading /usr/local/etc/mplayer/codecs.conf: can\'t open \'/usr/local/etc/mplayer/codecs.conf\': No such file or directory
(copy/link etc/codecs.conf (from the MPlayer source tree) to ~/.mplayer/codecs.conf)
bash-2.05$
mplayer doesn\'t work out of the box?... or am I looking at the wrong version of this application? I don\'t know codecs.conf and how that works. I\'m guessing this was built for a different Zaurus platform (which is why it can\'t seem to find the codecs).
I even uninstalled the ogg-vorbis plugin and re-installed it, and that didn\'t change anything.

Hi
I downloaded and installed the ogg-vorbis plug in for Kino2.
This works \'out of the box\'

Thanks!
In the http://www.zaurususergroup.com/index.php?n...c&p=22710#22710 (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&p=22710#22710) thread, a member posted a package of the \"Media Player\", which also works with the Vorbis plugin. It appears (I\'m guessing) that the plugin wasn\'t built for the pre-installed SL-C860 MusicPlayer and MoviePlayer.
I don\'t know why I can\'t find this on the internet anywhere. The attachment in that forum won\'t last forever... is there a permanent place for that IPK MediaPlayer file? Does anyone have a link which I missed?

You do appear to be in a bit of a pickle.
Ogg plays on the C860 without any extra software IF you use the Cacko ROM. OR buy tkcPlayer, I tried other varieties and setups and they were GRIEF to set up.

I\'m glad you have your music working!
I don\'t believe you will find a link for that anymore. It was removed from a sharp rom by kerberos or cacko or Elkins, can\'t remember and I\'ve removed all the dead links long ago.
But it should be saved here at Zug in d/l section.

Why was it removed? Was there something that replaced it?

By the way, although the 4 kbps vorbis encoder isn\'t publicly available yet, the existing encoder ( http://sjeng.org/vorbisgt3.html (http://sjeng.org/vorbisgt3.html) ) can encode files at around 8.5-9.5 kbps (depending on complexity of the audio). There\'s a resampling option and I resample to 8 kHz and then use quality -1. Awesome!! I can now encode low bitrate audio books for my Zaurus. The quality of the 9 kbps stereo voice files aren\'t yet as good as the 5 kbps mono RealAudio voice codec, but since vorbis is open-source I\'m sure it will get there someday.
In any case that\'s MUCH better than the 32 kbps mp3 audio files I would\'ve had to otherwise create. (Yes, Zaurus can play 32 kbps mono MP3 files. My desktop can play 8 and 16 kbps mono MP3 files, but the Zaurus can\'t... yet)

lol...No it was removed with romburst from an Ospack file and repackaged for a custom rom.
