Title: Upgrading opie on ROM ?!?
Post by: luzik on April 30, 2004, 01:10:16 pm
I use open zaurus 3.3.6-pre1-2.4.18-gcc3
http://www.openzaurus.org/official/experim...e1-2.4.18-gcc3/ (http://www.openzaurus.org/official/experimental/collie/3.3.6-pre1-2.4.18-gcc3/)
There is opie 1.0.3 included on initrd.bin. As i know initrd.bin is copied in to ROM while flashing. Can i use ipkg to upgrade opie to latest? How will be upgraded those packages while they are on Read Only Memory?
As dest for ipkg i use ram.
I try once to upgrade packages from
http://opie.handhelds.org/feed/openzaurus/....3/SL5xxx/gcc3/ (http://opie.handhelds.org/feed/openzaurus/1.1.3/SL5xxx/gcc3/)
but while upgrading \'i use verbose mode\' it stop on \'extracting files on /\' or somethink like that
Mabe the problem is in temporary dir?
There is somebody who use those two sources at the same time?

How long can take me to prepare my own initrd.bin with kernel from OZ and newest opie packages?

OpenZaurus gives you a writable file system as opposed to a ROM file system which Sharp gives you.
Upgrading from 1.0.3 to 1.1.3 is best done by erasing all Opie packages, then installing the new ones. Unfortunately older ipkg versions suck, so you must install a new ipkg before doing anything substantial.

I don\'t recommend modifiyng an OZ initrd - this is not Sharp ROM, we can build from source  Time would better be spent helping us to get OZ 3.5.1 out.
