This happens to me too, using the latest Cacko kernel on Sharp rom (5500). Didn\'t happen until I upgraded the kernel.
You can fix by disconnect from external power, On/Off the zaurus (i.e. suspend/unsuspend) then reconnect to external power. Almost always works I think.
Not sure what it means, e.g. is the battery actually charging if the light is flashing?
Otherwise no complaints about the cacko kernel.

This happened to me but only once I had completly flattened the battery using my wireless lan card and then tried to charge it using a SERILIO usb lead. Once I put it into the Sharp cradle the light stopped flashing. I assumed that the usb port of my desktop was not able to provide enougth power to charge a completly flat battery

No, that battery isn\'t charging, as I unfortunately found out after I first flashed the kernel.
Other than that, yet more great work from Cacko.

Generally speaking a flashing Battery LED means that your battery is toast!
-
When you\'re talking about the new Cacko kernel and the blinking LED the battery is (hopefully) fine.
Other ROMs, it\'s time to buy a new one.

This seems to be an issue with the Cacko Kernel and doesn\'t indicate that your battery is \'toast\'.
I am not sure whether it affects how well the battery is being charged but I am aware of two ways of overcoming the problem and getting the LED to stop flashing.
1. Turn the machine on and insert the serial cable a few times
2. Turn the machine on and put into/pull out of the Zuarus the charging plug a few times.
Hope this helps.

Just one more person to chime in:
1) It\'s definitely the Cacko kernel - no problems before flashing
2) My battery is brand new and is just fine
3) It doesn\'t charge at all when it\'s flashing
4) Some combination of suspending, resuming, and plugging it in fixes it
5) It\'s annoying, but the Cacko kernel has many benefits
Still I hope there is an updated Cacko kernel that fixes this!

Just purchased a SL-C860
Yes, same here, seems a kernel bug
Also does anybody know should I do a 24h charge before first usage on this machine? (too late now as I\'ve used for a few hours or so already flashing)

There are a few (very rare) cases where a device (I\'m not necessarily saying a Z) will actually require power to turn it off. This makes sense if you think about how the on/off button is just toggling a digital I/O line to the processor.
We use a device here at work to communicate to GE Genius devices, and it always has to have its battery disconnected to charge the unit from a dead state. Since we hardly ever use it anymore, we usually have to unscrew the case and yank the battery out to begin the charge.
A PITA, but no big deal.
