Title: Secure Digital Wireless card

Hey, I was wondering if the SD port in the zaurus would let a secure digital 802.11b card work...

I\'d like to save the CF port for memory since the CF memory cards can get so much bigger than an SD one.

Is this even doable?  anyone tried?

I have seen the cards but have not tried them.  I\'d be interested to know if they work as well.

In another post about SDIO that I foudn after making this it said that they wouldn\'t work... I\'m just hoping someone\'s actually given it a shot to know for sure.

j/k ok,i figured as much, it would probably need a custom driver.

I think the consensus reached on other threads is that most of the modern Zaurus models are physically wired to support SDIO, but it would be impossible to write a driver without signing an NDA and paying a large amount of money to join the SD association, or else reverse engineering a binary driver for some other OS.  Neither of these are an ideal option.

Another way to save your CF slot is to upgrade to the SL-6000L.  It has WiFi built-in.  (in fact, it shows up as an internal USB device)

Yep... I just tested my new SanDisk SD Wi-Fi card in my Zaurus SL-C860 and it didn\'t work.   I was hoping on this one, because the ad didn\'t say that it was SDIO, so I was hoping that it wasn\'t.

But I\'m getting the feeling that all SD cards that aren\'t just plani memory are now SDIO.

I thought I read in another forum that someone was able to get their SD GPS card working on their Zaurus... so I don\'t know if this is hopeless or not..

Well, this is an unconfirmed rumor so far, but it is theretically possible.  It just takes a substantial amount of engineering skill because of the closed nature of the SD spec.  But even if true, writing a WiFi driver is an order of magnitute more complex than reading some GPS data.
