Title: samba Success!
Post by: dino on May 14, 2004, 02:39:14 pm
1) From:
http://www.openzaurus.org/official/3.3.5/collie/ipks/ (http://www.openzaurus.org/official/3.3.5/collie/ipks/)
Downloaded:
samba-common_2.2.8a-2_armv4l-strongarm.ipk
samba_2.2.8a-2_armv4l-strongarm.ipk
smbclient_2.2.8a-2_armv4l-strongarm.ipk
smbfs_2.2.8a-2_armv4l-strongarm.ipk

2) run /etc/init.d/samba start
3) Could not modify/delete files from samba share:
Ran smbpassword and created a password for root to be used with samba.
4) Next day ran /etc/init.d/samba start and it does not work!  Did a ps -A command and ther is no nmbd or smbd running.  I hard-rebooted last night.
Discovered I HAD TO RECREATE THE
/var/cache/samba/
/var/run/samba/
DIRECTORYS!!!

That was the silver bullet.  I wrote a script that recreates the directory if it does not exist.  Now if I\'m an idiot and forget, I\'ll do a search and find my post here to help me remember.
