Title: Sync Options
Post by: wizzard on May 17, 2004, 11:38:30 am
Hi
Whenever I press sync on the cradle of my Zaurus or double click on Intellisync on my desktop, I get an error message saying that I have to set the connection properties using \"Sync Options\". However when I double click on \"Sync Options\", nothing happens. I can transfer files using Zaurus File Transfer, so PC connection is not a problem. I have a Zaurus 5600 with Sharp ROM and am running Win XP on my PC.
Thanks

Which version of Intellisync did you install?  I found that installing just the 5600 version from Sharp\'s website presented me with all kinds of problems (i.e. no sync) but after uninstalling and then installing the version which is listed to update the 5500 (get it in ZUG downloads or on Sharp\'s Zaurus website under downloads) and that one worked fine.

I used the 5600 version from Sharp\'s website ( the updated version, not the one in the CD). Should I uninstall the whole thing or just intellisync?

that\'s what I did (just uninstalled Intellisync and all its components), and reinstalled using the one listed for the 5500, and it now works fine (the connection, but not the Calendar import...)

Thanks for the tip. I\'ll try it tonight and let you know how it went.

Intellisync for Zaurus 3.2E works for me using Sharp ROM 3.13.
also with your Zaurus docked check your USB driver in Control Panel, System, Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus Controllers, SL Series (WDM) mine has driver 3.44.0.2700 with a Driver Date of 3/6/2002 installed.

Right, Intellisync 3.2E is the one which works.  The only download of 3.2E that I\'ve been able to get to properly work (on my Windoze XP box) is the one which is listed for the 5500 to upgrade it to 5600 specs.

Tried it but the problem persists. Still no sync. Is there any other way?

Confirming the configuration windows isn\'t opening at all,
also what does Device Manager show your USB status at?

Device manager shows USB SL driver as enabled. Same for the network adapter. I was able to get syncing to work with Qtopia desktop, so I\'m using that now.
I also wanted to know if it was possible to network through USB so that I could surf the net or install packages from the feeds directly, but so far I haven\'t had any reply to that thread.

Glad to hear you got some joy from using Qtopia Desktop as far as USB
networking haven\'t tried that yet!

does anyone know how exactly the syncing comunicates with the zaurus, what does it use for datatransfer.  I\'m guessing it\'s an rpc call since thats all that seams to be running on my Z.  is there a spec sheet for this sort of stuff, or really any developer docs at all?

Well, I\'d actually like to use Ko/Pi but couldn\'t get it to sync either. So I\'m stuck with this I guess.

I\'m having trouble getting my Calender to sync via Intellisync.  I can transfer files, backup, transfer address, etc, but can\'t transfer the Calendar info from Outlook into the Sharp Calendar.  I keep getting an error \"Unable to Complete Request\" right after the \"comparing records\"  screen.

Tried installing Ko/Pi as an alternative (it is an awesome calendar app!) and thought that I\'d just export a *.vcs file from Outlook using Outpod which creates one vcs file of whatever events you specify, but Ko/Pi hangs up when trying to import, requiring a reboot.

This is the most amazingly frustrating and seemingly so simple thing!

Anyone have any ideas as to how to make this work?  I keep getting this error - I\'m thinkng that it has to be an XP setting (when in doubt, blame Micro$oft).

Sounds like your Personal Folder file (.pst) may be damaged, visit the below on how to repair it:

I tried repairing the *.pst file, and still getting no sync.  Same problem, as described below.
  I\'ll gladly pay a reward to the person who could come up with a fix!  It is confounding me.  :!:

A few questions - should I have file sharing turned off or on?  What about sharing on my outlook *.pst files?  (I have the network config set up with file sharing on, but not sharing on the outlook files/folder).  Tried changing all of these back and forth, but no success in sync.  Strange thing is that I can transfer address book and emails, but not calendar.

You were on the right track, Qman.  My .pst file has some problem.  I tried to fix it using the micro$oft repair tools, and after it says that there are no problems, but still no ability to sync (same error when \"comparing records\" in Intellisync).  I built a months worth of data in KO-Pi on the Zaurus, exported to *.vcs file, and tried to import that into Outlook.  Got an error saying that the Import file may have corruption.

So here\'s the [sort-of] fix, if you\'re getting an \"Unable to Complete Request\" error when Intellisync tries to compare records between the Zaurus calendar and Outlook:  I archived my calendar from Outlook to a new archive *.pst file.  Then did an import (just importing into the Zaurus) via Intellisync, from the new archive *.pst calendar, and Voila!  Success.  I then tried to export and import into Outlook, to no avail, so I really only have one-way from Outlook into the Z, so I synced the Z calendar with KO-Pi on the Z, and then exported a *.vcs file from KO-Pi on the Z to KO-Pi on Windows, and all is fine.

Short of beginning with a new Outlook *.pst file I won\'t be able to import into Outlook, but KO-Pi seems great, so I\'ll move forward with that since my main calendar file will be on the Z rather than the Windows box anyway.  I typically only use the Windows calendar for printing.

Did you install the firewall with XP?  That could be causing a problem.

No firewall on the Zaurus USB connection - that wasn\'t the problem - it was a corrupt *.pst file in Outlook (see prior post).

I had all sorts fo problems as well, including the above message which I still get every now and again - I would suggest setting up a brand new Mapi profile and creating a brand new pst with a few example entries in it  - it maybe there is something it does not like within the original file - if this works just import all the data into the new file  - also try just selecting one item at a time on the sync list.

My intelisync quite often crashes at the end of everything but usually the syncing has finished - another irritation is that it syncs the entire contents of the selected folders (email) which I don\'t want - just the last week or five days worth - plus if you select other folders it dumps everything on the Z in the inbox and then syncs it back to the inbox on outlook very irritating!

Oh forgot to say I\'m usuing XP with Office 2003.

I have had a similar problem using Intellisync 3.2E on Win2K with C860.

When I launch the Sync Options - nothing seems to happen. On starting up the Task Manager I see that Intellisync is running. right-clicking the Intellisync task and selecting maximise shows the Sync Options app but it cannot acheive focus.

When the task is ended from Task Manager it reports that it cannot be ended because it is waiting for user input.

I still haven't been able to solve this problem - any suggestions are welcome.

I found a way to sync but there is a real problem with the software.

Also, mine is Japanese so I don't know the names of the buttons.

Open the PC link package
Click USB then hit ok
Open the PC link package again
Click PC
Now put your cable in the USB port you set it up on.
I think it only works with one.
Then plug the cable into the PDA

The program should connect.

Please tell me if this works.

I can't find that page on the Sharp USA site.  Can anyone give me a pointer?  I'm looking for a version of Intellisync that's in English, and talks to the DTM apps.

Thanks.
