Looks interesting... It\'s a Linux handheld that emulates an HP49 or TI89, or runs in \"native\" Linux mode. Described as a \"Scientific PDA\". It was designed by 2 of the architects of the HP49.

It\'s not quite a competitor to the Zaurus, but definately encroaching a bit and has some neat functionality. Like I\'ve been saying, Sharp will eventually have some real competition in this market.
It\'s hard to tell from the picture, but my guess is it will have a fold down calculator style keyboard.

What makes you think that? Check out www.linuxdevices.com/articles/AT4936596231.html - there are LOT\'S of Linux PDAs and other devices: most have been around for a while... and eventually vanished. The Zaurus stayed for a reason, even though Sharp could have done better in supporting their device, they must have done something right as well!

You misunderstood what I meant. When I said real competition, I meant embedded Linux handheld products that people actually want to buy. It\'s not much competition if the product sucks and fades away.

There are HP49 and TI89 emulator for Linux. If you have one of those scientific calculator then you will be able to extract the ROM and build and run the emulator for pdaXrom. If you find HP49/TI89 emulator for QT, then the Qtopia port will be easier.
I never tested the HP49 but had HP 48G/48GX/SX. The TI89 is a great tools. Mine works for years. Playing Street Fighter 2 on the TI was great.

Having a calculator style keyboard makes a huge difference. Emulation just isn\'t the same when all your \"buttons\" are touch screen taps.
It\'s the same reason we Z owners value our keyboards.
