Title: LinuxWorld Expo - January 20 - 23, 2004
Post by: jchung on November 25, 2003, 10:56:11 am
anybody going?! I was thinking of having a ZUG meet this year (well techinically next year) at the LinuxWorld Expo.

I have a contact that got me free passes to the expo last year and I\'m trying to see if I can get them again. Hopefully I can!

EDIT: OK, I got the code for free exhibit passes \"M-NY03\"

go to http://www.linuxworldexpo.com/linuxworldny...ex.cvn?ID=10128 (http://www.linuxworldexpo.com/linuxworldny/V40/index.cvn?ID=10128) to sign up.

Let me know who will go and we need to find somewhere to meet

I will be there sometime Wednesday the 21st.

I think the 21st is the first actual day of the \"expo\"; the first day of the \"conference\" on the 20th is for suits paying like a $1000 to be there.  I\'m sure most of us Z freaks are running with the freebie expo pass.
Dates:
http://www.linuxworldexpo.com/linuxworldny...y/V40/index.cvn (http://www.linuxworldexpo.com/linuxworldny/V40/index.cvn)

Different passes:

I\'ll be at the expo also ... with my free pass.  I dont know which day I\'ll be there though.
If I see anyone walking around with a Zaurus, I\'ll say hi.

Hmm -- aren\'t the exhibits free?  Does does this \"code\" enable/allow?

I am up for a little meet and greet.

Hows does noon on the 21st sound?

We all could meet by the Escalator near the food court.

I\'m not sure about other years, but this year if you registered by around the middle of December, the exhibits pass was free.

the show was, as my first (and hopefully last?) LinuxWorld... disappointing.

gee, everone has a rack mountable 1u.  gee.  Everyone can run kde or gnome
with redhat or suse ... gee.

Do I have to look to mircosoft for \"innovation\" ?

I heard it\'s not that interesting.. (I couldnt get outta work to go   )

but did you at least meet fellow Zaurus users? or get free stuff?

ScottYelich,  I dont know what you mean by interesting, but overe the last 2-3 years Linuxworld has become more of a buisness meet rather than the geeky atmosphere which presided before.

But geek factor apart, I think there were a lot of interesting things happening. Of course listening to a Oracle exec or Sun technician talking about \"Unbreakable Linux\" or Java desktop might not be so interesting, but there were a lot of activity going on.

Ximian (with its mono emphasis), Suse and Novell with their new found Linux enthusiam and the smaller vendors were trying to show off their best. Of course in between were the big Iron category from IBM and the giants. You just had to look around for the interesting part.

In fact I saw quite a few vendors using the Zaurus in their setup. NetOP (or something like that ) and a few others were carying the zaurus and using it in their field of work - which I found interesting as to how you could use the zaurus in new ways (which i myself havent tried of course).

I found out about the IBM websphere and the 6000 implementation only because I asked about that and this guy fished out the Zaurus 6000 from his pocket and demo-ed the webshepere suite. Otherwise all I would have seen would be the server racks in the IBM booth (whcih I understand is neither interesting to me).

Free stuff - hardly much - its was all suited booted execs doing the round, hence the lack of nerdy stuff, but better than last year (when the industry was sucked dry).

Sadly I was there by the stairs (as one poster planned to meet there) but found no fellow Zaurus users (this was the first day).

no, I did not look to meet any other zaurus members... the ibm/sun/novel/intel/ms area gave me the creeps.

I paced through the .org pavaillion long enough to get a Unix (not linux) live free or die license plate.
I grabbed some java desktop demo/live-cds ... and then went back to work.

nilch --  yes... that\'s what I meant... too .com.

I only went the second day, from about noon until 2:30 ..
