Post by: freizugheit on November 26, 2003, 03:39:46 am
Lately, I encoutered \"Invalid Magic\" error message while installing software with ipkg-new?

What does it mean?  How to solve the problem?

Thank you in advance!!!

Normally means an archive (I don\'t know which bit or which one) is corrupted. Assuming you\'re using ipkg-new for a reason (i.e. you don\'t have access to \'ar\'), I\'d try downloading it again.

.ipk files are packaged using either tar+gzip or ar. If you try to gunzip an ar-packaged file it will say \"Invalid Magic\" and die.

ipkg should be able to distinguish between the two .ipk varieties. I don\'t know anything about ipkg-new. Perhaps it\'s a new version of ipkg that does away with using ar, breaking compatibility with old packages...
