Hi all
Had my sl 5500 for just over a year now but last month it reset itself (as if battery had been removed and reset button pressed) and completely wiped all my info. Very annoyed.
Any way took opportunity to update rom to 3.10 and thought it was a one off thing. But today after just getting all my stuff back on and input in contacts it did it again and I have lost all my stuff for the 2nd time.
I have shook the Zaurus but this does not cause any problems so don\'t thinl battery is loose.
Are sl 5500\'s stable or is it just me?
Is it possible it has a virus?
I am in the UK, will Sharp support the sl 5500 here anymore?
Any help would be good.
Thanks

I\'ve had my 5500 for about a year and a half. In my opinion it is quite stable. That said, I briefly had a problem like the one you described when I was trying to run a terminal app that required OPIELIB at the same time as I had the serial I/O set to \"free\". What I\'m thinking is that you may have some conflicting applications.

Thanks for reply.
No it has rebooted when I have not been doing anything, infact it has been on stand by in my pocket. I don\'t do any thing special with it only standard apps, portabase and games.

Mine does the exact same thing. I\'ve had the 5500 for about 6-7 months now, and, since I have installed the 3.1 ROM, it has hard reset 3 times on me. I suspend it, go do something else for awhile, turn it on, and get the boot screen. Once it boots, it starts up just as if it were the first time -- digitize the screen, etc. and all my info is gone. This has happened 3 times in the last couple of months. Often enough to become worrysome, but not often enough to suggest a conflict. Any ideas?

I had a similar problem, and in fact still do. In my case, it clearly started one day when I put some small change and my 5500 in my pocket at the same time. Twice in that day the 5500 blanked out. the second time I found a dime wedged inthe serial port at the bottom of the unit. It has happened one other time as well in one of my dresser drawers. I think the serial port came in contact with a pair of socks that may have been staticky (sp), but I\'m not sure. It is frustrating to lose all your contacts and programs, but I keep a backup on a SD card and can restore in a matter of seconds.
Still stinks, though.
