SanDisk merges Wi-Fi, 256 MB storage

SanDisk has announced a new Secure Digital card that combines Wi-Fi wireless connectivity and 256 MB of flash storage into a single card.
Flash card maker SanDisk has announced that it has developed a new Secure Digital (SDIO) card sporting both flash memory and Wi-Fi connecitivity, targeted at Windows Mobile handhelds.
Wi-Fi and storage in one small package
The new card are the first to incorporate both flash ROM storage and wireless connectivity into an SDIO card, although SanDisk previously sold a Compact Flash card with similar features but only 32 MB of storage space. The new SDIO card supports a variety of Wi-Fi security features, including WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy), 802.1x, PSK, and WPA. It supports the full range of Wi-Fi features, including 11 Mbps transmission and a theoretical range of up to 300 feet.
The card also includes 256 MB of flash storage. That is important, as many handhelds include only a single expansion card slot and swapping between a storage card and a Wi-Fi card is both inconvenent and in some cases impossible if both are needed at the same time. The card is also designed to minimize power consumption.
The SanDisk 256 MB + Wi-Fi SD Combination card will be available in about a month in the Americas, Europe, and Asia for $129 USD. It will only support handhelds running Pocket PC 2002, Pocket PC 2003, or Windows Mobile 2003, and naturally requires an SDIO-capable SD card slot.

Is there any information about a working Linux driver?
We know that the SandDisk Connect Plus (WiFi + 128MB Compact Flash) does not have a working Linux driver because it uses a Prism 3 chipset. And the hostap_cs driver does not (yet) know the special initialization sequence.
It is only known how to enable the 128MByte. Please refer to the ZUG How-Tos.
There have been several efforts - one recently driven by me. So, if anybody wants to help on working for the driver with the Sandisk CF, please leave a note.

Well we need a SDIO driver first before we can even consider a WIFI driver working on the SDIO slot of a Z. Any progress on this?

Grr.. they should integrate bluetooth with a memory card. WiFi this WiFi that, there\'s WiFi everywhere now, where\'s the imagination?
