Title: replacing SL-5500 front-light with LED or similar?
Post by: sashby11 on May 30, 2004, 12:05:19 am
Just wondering if anyone has considered replacing their front-light with a newer LED light source or similar.  It seems this would dramatically enhance battery life, and solve screen brightness issues I\'ve read about.  Any thoughts on feasibility of this?  Thanks!

Having just broken the frontlight in my SL-5500. I did consider this - briefly.
I thought about removing the inverter and powering a number of high-efficiency LEDs from the inverter inputs. I\'m not sure how uniform the light would be, or how the power consumption would compare to the CCFL.
Personally, I\'ve never had a problem with battery life of screen brightness from the original light.
