I know it looks like a strange idea, but the thing is i have a keaboard typing trainer tha works on windows. I would really like to use it on my z (pdaxrom) in order to improve my writing speed.
Does anything like wine or dosbox works on the Zaurus?
Does such a prog already exist on the Z?
Thanks.

That\'s a bit like taking the engine out of you dodge and putting in the engine from a toyota because you have spark plugs for a toyota handy, and you don\'t want to buy new plugs. If you spend just a very few minutes searching you will find numerous typing tutors for linux.
You could try http://www.linux.org (http://www.linux.org) http://www.google.com (http://www.google.com) http://www.altavista.com (http://www.altavista.com) http://www.cacko.biz (http://www.cacko.biz) or any of another 3 or 4 million websites.

If you are using pdaXrom and find a typing traininer for x11 that you like, post it here and some nice soul may compile it for you.
If they don\'t I will

Ok, VeeDub, this was a very good answer... I\'m sorry for my stupidity, but i have been usin Win for so many time that my brain is a bit slow...
Plus, you are absolutely right : what is the point on emulating windws when a linux native program can do the same work...
Dear CoreyC, i found this :
http://www.gnu.org/software/gtypist/gtypist.html (http://www.gnu.org/software/gtypist/gtypist.html)
\"GNU Typist (also called gtypist) is a universal typing tutor. You can learn correct typing and improve your skills by practicing its exercises on a regular basis. Its main features are:
It is free software released under the GNU General Public License. In addition, it is an official program of the GNU project.
It comes with several typing tutorials: in Czech, English (Qwerty and Dvorak keyboard), Russian and Spanish, as well as simpler exercices in German, French and Norwegian.
It interprets a simple and intuitive scripting language that describes typing tutorials. You can easily modify existing tutorials or create new ones according to your needs.
It supports internationalization and already has an interface in Czech, English, Finnish, French, German and Spanish.
Users can navigate through lessons through an easy to use arrow key based menu interface. \'vi\' up, down, left and right keys can be used too!
Thanks to its execution in text mode with the curses library, it can be compiled and used on several operating systems, in particular on GNU/Linux and GNU/HURD, on several variants of Unix, as well as on Windows/DOS with the DJGPP compiler and the PDCURSES library.\"
I know only bases about compiling, but i think this one might be possible to compile.
Anyway, on the bottom of the page, many alternatives are proposed so one of those should work...

actually, I\'m interested in a program that helps you increase your reading speed....
a speed reading type program... I figure if I ever get around to getting back to learning python,
I\'d probably write one of these to read ebooks, etc.

alan,
check back tonight, I hope to have something for you. I\'d rather do a graphical app than a console app. Allot of the console app (including gtypist) like to use the F1-F12 keys, and we don\'t have these on our zaurii keyboards.
This is the one we may be looking at: http://typingtrainer.sourceforge.net/screenshots.html (http://typingtrainer.sourceforge.net/screenshots.html)

Alan,
download typespeed from the pdaXrom unstable feed
http://www.pdaxrom.org/ipk_feed.php?showfeed=unstable (http://www.pdaxrom.org/ipk_feed.php?showfeed=unstable)
after installing it will put the icon in your games folder.
I ended up going with a console program after all.. this one doesn\'t use the F1-F12 keys. Most of the graphical ones I ran into required KDE.
Let me know if this fits your needs, if not we will try something else

I have it packaged incorrectly. I\'ll post when I have the correct ipk uploaded, it will not work as is.

ipk updated, working 8)
This looks very nice if you run it in the console before starting X (by typing typespeed at the prompt).

type invaders?

Yeah, I guess You want to kill the words before they run into the end of the screen.
It gets pretty dang tough after a few minutes... you can see where I am ranked in the screen shot
