Title: easiest X11 route
Post by: rcm on June 01, 2004, 07:37:19 am
I am looking for help to decide between X/Qt or Xfree86 on my
sl-c750; I am currently running the 1.21 Qtopia rom fro cacko and
am pleased with it, but would be like to be able to run a *few* x11 apps!
Does Xfree86 come up as a completely separate system?
Any advice/comparsions would be appreciated -- X/Qt seems like a good
idea, but I have seen some horror stories about getting it to
install and run ...
Thanks for any input ...

I just installed it and it ran. There seems to be an issue with the fonts in XMMS? I have only used ICEWM and XMMS. To my knowledge, this is the only practicle way to have X on Cacko 1.21

I have been using Xqt with blockbox WM and now fluxbox with little problem for the last 3 months with Cacko 1.2x.

Issues:

1.  Cacko key remapping of the /.,? keys interfere with many applications.  I may have a solution for this, but have not had the time.
2.  xdpyinfo reports the dpi as 2032x2032, I think this it effecting my perl/tk environment.  I just downloaded the sources to fix it myself.
3.  Unable to determine if development community is alive.

Applications that I run:

xterm
rxvt
xchat
gnuplot /w X11 output
cgoban/gnugo
