Title: What PIM Apps do you use
Post by: imrambi on June 02, 2004, 10:22:38 am: I\'m thinking about writing some apps or something for the Z. I have a 5600, with no syncing software in linux. I know there is multisync, and was thinking about writing a 5600 connector for that, along with some other PIM app stuff. More input the better.

And sync it with with Sharp-DTM or with other Apps using ics Files.

I have to maintain 2 calendars on my winblows machine @ work as I am forced to use Groupwise and nothing syncs well with that POS. But KO/PI ROCKS, can\'t wait for the address book version of KO/PI !

Post by: doseas on June 02, 2004, 04:22:38 pm: Hate to admit it, but... M$ Outlook (or \"LookOut\" for all you M$ fans). I\'d switch to Evolution, if the Sharp 3.x PIMs supported it or if one of the alternate ROMs were more stable.

Same here. KOPI is just excellent. I\'m using the stock address book in Cacko ROM until KAPI arrives.

at Evolution on a Linux box to night and liked, so I\'ll be installing it ASAP

Post by: Snappy on June 03, 2006, 09:52:29 pm: I'm using the default SHARP PIM apps that come with Cacko. I would prefer KO/PI but I'm currently evaluating OZ/GPE and pdaXrom to see which one to use. They are that much snappier than Cacko, although I'm currently using Cacko just nice.

Once I choose one of them, I'll use KO/PI.

I'm using KO/PI on my Z. The reason why is because it was the only solution that could sync with my Powerbook. Overall, I'm not too happy with KO/PI - the interface (to me) is quirky and way too configurable (did I just type that?).

Apologies for the following bunny trail....

I also have missed several appointments due to the fact that the Z seems to only have one volume level for screen taps, key presses, alarms and system sounds. I work in some quiet environments and with the exception of the occasional alarm sounds, noisy machines aren't tolerated. Is there some way to set the alarms to a higher volume then the rest of the sounds that the Z makes? My old Palm T3 could do that so, could my ancient Psion series 3a's.

This issue is really killing my productivity on the Z.

I rarely use PIM applications, but when I do, I always use the provided
date book, phone number, to do list, and notes applications on a Palm IIIc
(or Palm V when traveling very light/slim).

Of course this means carrying an extra device, but I do not have to disrupt my
activity or share screen space on my Zaurus devices. I also consider the battery
life exceptional, as I do not have to worry about charging very often.

So now I'm trying to get used to the GPE pim apps (on pdaXrom) which are quite lean, fast and feature rich enough. They pop up almost instantly. At the moment I am working on making them synchronize with evolution (via multisync) which basically works. I just have database issues with the contacts so they don't sync but tasks and appointments are working fine.

GPE PIM apps are ok but again they seem a bit too much for the Zaurii. I've been using a filofax for the past year and found it very accessible. I want that same level of accessibility in a PIM app. I think I'll have to write my own! (Bringing this whole thread full circle I believe (for those who were paying attention )

An Outlook one-way sync would be easy enough to implement using VBA, though it would be nice if the same Outlook backend could be used for any other PIM apps (Opie, GPE, KO/PI).

More interesting for me would be syncing between my phone and my Zaurus/etc.

Ditto. Now that I've got an E70 I would be very interested in (at the very least) how to keep contacts/address book in sync. The frustrating thing is that thumbnails don't want to travel between phone<->zaurus.

Sorry to hear the bad performance issue with Ko/Pi apps on your Zaurus.
But do you have Fast Load enabled for the Ko/Pi apps ? Having them preloaded does take some memory but not enough to slow down other apps - as far as I have seen (on my C760 as well). But thats a trade-off you have to make.

With fast load on, on my Zaurus (currently C1000, but have used previously on C760) it takes a second to load up the Calendar app and about 2 seconds if other apps are on for the Ko/Addessbook component.

The recent versions of Ko/Pi has a task bar applet too from where you can start and check your calendar events/tasks or contacts - pretty fast.
